Do you feel lost and as though you have no one to turn to? Are your fears of being judged and misunderstood preventing you from reaching out for help? Do you struggle to open up to people and feel as though you have to hide your true self out of fear of being misunderstood or misjudged? Do you feel as though you struggle with negative thoughts about yourself and others that hold you back from building relationships? Taking the first step in acknowledging that you need support along your healing journey can be difficult and scary.

I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorder, bipolar, obsessive compulsive disorders, and addiction disorders.
My passion for counseling comes from the enjoyment of being able to engage the client into sharing their life stories and seeing the positive outcomes of overcoming those issues that are keeping the client from living a fully engaging life. As an experienced counselor, the most rewarding feeling comes from seeing clients transition from emotional and mental anguish into a more peaceful mind and soul. Clients can be assured that they will have a warm, caring, and non-judgmental therapist who will listen and be present with them on their journey to well-being.

I have experience working with a variety of concerns including: trauma, anxiety, behavioral issues, transitions, depression, low self-esteem, family conflict, parenting, OCD, ADHD & peer relationships.
Many of us are looking for a place to feel safe and connected. Somewhere we can feel heard and seen. As a therapist, I work hard to provide acceptance, unconditional positive regard and empathy to build a strong therapeutic relationship. The work I do is deeply rooted in my belief that everyone can find success. I believe that everyone has the ability to reach their highest potential once they have overcome the obstacles that stand in their way. In our work together, I help provide support in identifying barriers and creating a tailored plan for individual needs. Through collaboration and support we can work to find healing.

Sometimes we get stuck. We may find ourselves repeating familiar patterns that, while fiercely self-protective, no longer serve us in the present moment. We may not be able to find our sense of safety and connection which can leave us feeling hopeless for a brighter future. I want to reassure you that despite what might feel like relentless suffering, there is always hope for healing. Together, we can explore ways to reconnect with the body’s innate wisdom, fostering a sense of safety regardless of past experiences. I specialize in C-PTSD, anxiety, depression, OCD, and chronic pain.

I believe that people are born with enormous potential! That said, sometimes situations occur in our lives which directly or indirectly impact the pace at which we may reach that potential. When people are able to identify at what point they stopped being an author in their lives, they can go back, pick up the pen, and begin re-writing their story. I bring an eclectic approach in moving us forward (EFT, DBT, CBT, among others) in consideration of identified goals. I regularly serve therapists, bariatric clients, men/women with perinatal struggles, couples, and individuals struggling with anxiety/OCD and/or depression, among others.

Counseling serves many purposes. It's a safe place to process current and past events. It's an opportunity to learn new skills that will help you cope with distressing emotions or to function better in relationships and other important areas of your life. It's a place to make sense of things and to find meaning and value in life. In short, it is designed to make your life better.

Many clients I see come in after suffering significantly from riding the highs and lows of intense emotional ups and downs and are in search of learning new coping skills, or strengthening existing ones. Some of these folks suffer from self-harming behaviors, suicidality, addiction, eating disorders, OCD, PTSD, or anxiety and depression. The common thread among them, however, is the desire to not only more skillfully regulate their emotions, but to ultimately build a life that they want to live, not just one that they simply are trying to endure.

I have the privilege of working with children, teens, and young adults who are navigating various challenges in their lives. I am certified in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) Therapy and Neurofeedback. I have a particular interest in OCD, anxiety, ADHD, and mood disorders. At the core of my counseling philosophy lies a balance between empathy and challenge. With deep compassion, I believe that every feeling is valid, though I also understand that not all emotions lead to a fulfilling life without thoughtful exploration and intention.

I have been working in this field for over 15 years and still find the most rewarding work to be when I watch clients grow and develop into the person they want to become. My expertise, experience, and competence allow me to help clients struggling with a variety of issues, such as trauma, anxiety, depression, anger, or OCD, and facilitate change.

I also offer IASIS Micro Current Neurofeedback, which helps bring the central nervous system back into balance, helping a variety of symptoms including ADD, OCD, Anxiety, Depression, Insomnia, and more.
Sojourn means "to stay for a time in a place or to live temporarily". This is my view of our life on earth. It is a temporary stay, and our time here can be difficult, confusing and painful at times. Sometimes, we need help navigating. I believe that we each have a unique story and set of experiences that make us who we are. What we believe about ourselves and the world around us impacts how we feel and respond to life. I'd like to help you navigate life so that you may have the most abundant life possible.

I take special interest in adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) with adults, or trauma exposure, and believe that only by working through these experiences can we begin to heal. ACEs can lead to issues in adulthood relationships, careers, and mental health that we do not often realize correlates with our childhood experiences. I have extensive experience working with those experiencing PTSD, panic attacks, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, OCD, phobias, and life transitions. I also have unique experience working with individuals with mood disorders, such as bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and major depressive disorder.

God intends for us to be happy and content while the struggles of this world constantly attack the very foundation of our mental health. Things like intrusive thoughts of fear, jealously, inferiority, anger, mistrust, unforgiveness, and guilt rob us of our confidence and sense of wellbeing. Obsessive behavior or feelings of anxiety or depression can prevent or erode relationships that add so much to our lives. Healthy work relationships, marriage, and family relationships are all negatively or positively impacted by our perception. Our behavior will not change until our thinking changes. Why continue in pain when there is a relief.

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
