I use somatic methods and talk therapy to create a space for inquiry, exploration and acceptance of emotions and challenge.
Hi, I'm Jenny. Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed or deeply concerned about life situations, change, or a loss. Maybe you don’t even know how you feel but know it is time to reach out for help. Maybe you are missing something in the past or feeling not up to the future. You are not alone in this. These moments are some of the most important in a life, and it is easier to face them with support. That is where therapy can start. “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” -Carl Rogers.

I conceptualize through a person-centered, somatic-focused lens.
I am currently accepting new clients. I offer a warm, empathetic, judgment-free, and safe space for adults. This space will invite you to explore all parts of yourself and create more meaning in your lives. I believe that individual challenges are unique to your experiences, circumstances, cultural and spiritual beliefs, and personal identity. I find that the most important aspect of therapy is the relationship between the client and therapist. With this uniquely beautiful relationship, I believe the path to healing is more accessible.

I have practiced for 5+ years as a licensed creative art therapist (LCAT). My practice specializes in working with adults of all ages. I put focus into making the unconscious conscious, working through core beliefs to develop a new sense of awareness. The symptoms a person experiences are part of a deeper issue, which we will work to uncover together. We will seek to better understand how environment, systems, culture, & relationships interact with historical & present thoughts, emotions and somatic experiences.

As a practitioner I seek to assist my clients to begin to shed the layers of the their cocoon, and accept themselves as whole people. I utilize mindfulness techniques, somatic awareness, meditation, attachment and experiential psychotherapy. As a trauma-focused somatic psychotherapist, I help clients find relief, restoration and empowerment.
If you struggle with inner conflict or feel disconnected, inadequate or lost, there may be deeper roots to address. Anxiety, depression, relationship issues, feeling pressure to conform to outer expectations and neglect your own truth, all could stem from past trauma. Complex trauma, familial or systemic, can lead to internalized guilt, shame or self-abandonment. You may feel confused, resentful, tense, hopeless or shut down. Yet, you are not doomed to stay stuck in this difficult loop. Healing is possible and can illuminate a path to more self-acceptance, authenticity, and better relationships with others and especially yourself.

I am of the mindset that therapy integrates the mind and body: the cognitive and the somatic.
I am passionate about working with young people and members of the LGBTQ+ community. As a former educator, I have extensive experience working with youth, and specialize in issues related to adolescence, young adulthood, coming out, queer identities, perfectionism, self-image, and learning disabilities. I am well-versed in integrated therapeutic practices which involve connecting current challenges with personal history and combining cognitive therapy with meditation and mindfulness training. Also, the handsome fella in the pic is Hud, our rescue pup. He's generally happier than he looks in the picture, I promise.

I employ practices from somatic experiencing, DBT, IFS, & mindfulness techniques, amongst other therapeutic strategies in session.
If you have made it this far, I commend you for your courage. Seeking support is a huge step! The longer I’ve lived, the more I’ve understood that life brings both joy and pain, success and failure, beginnings and endings, and this duality can often bring dissonance within us, as we work to make meaning of it all. Healing and wellness are deeply personal to everyone’s journey, and I aim to honor your diverse life experiences through this work. On this journey, we’ll create an environment where you can be free to explore who you are, your needs, your values, and the priorities for your life in a safe space.

I am trained in EMDR, somatic approaches, and I utilize a harm reduction approach in managing behaviors that are hard to change.
You have taken a courageous step in seeking therapy. It is not always easy to talk about how you feel, what you've been through or what you want. Some experiences are beyond words. I see my clients as individuals who have the brilliant capacity to heal and connect with their innate self-worth. I create a warm and comforting space where you will feel seen and heard. My approach is interactive and incorporates an intersectional trauma lens. Together we will look at how your experiences, identities and relationships have impacted where you are now, and incorporate body awareness and strategies to heal.

I use mindfulness and embodiment practices, including somatic parts work, and relational and attachment approaches.
Studies consistently show that the most important part of effective therapy is a strong relationship between therapist and client. When you come to see me, establishing a supportive bond where you feel safe enough to be yourself and to take risks is my first priority. Together we will explore how different parts of you interact with one another, noticing and appreciating your resiliency, as well as the areas of pain and hurt. We will work together to create more internal harmony, improving relationships with others by starting with your relationship with yourself.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
