As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, LMHC, all of my clients are provided with a safe, non-judgmental environment, where the client’s therapeutic needs are a top priority. Clients are encouraged to feel safe in expressing their thoughts, feelings, emotions and concerns, throughout the therapeutic process.

As a trauma-informed therapist, I specialize in working with individuals aged 14 and above, offering a sanctuary where you can explore the complexities of your life without fear or judgment. Believe it or not, I have a passion for working with trauma. Together, we'll unravel its threads, connecting past experiences with present challenges and rewriting the narratives that hold you back.

I help you to see your symptoms as a meaningful response to concerns that you have about your life and yourself. I help you become aware of what is keeping you from living the way you want to live. I help you to get clear about what you want in the way of love, work (expressing yourself) and enjoyment of life and to use your thoughts, feelings, intentions, talents and strengths to get on a path towards satisfying those desires. I help people heal from trauma. I don't believe drugs are good treatment and will help you withdraw from them.

As a licensed clinical social worker, I understand that a person's physical health, social connectedness, access to resources, and mental health are all interconnected. We are living in a challenging time and are facing stress from many directions. Counseling can provide you with a safe space to work through stress, anxiety, depression, or trauma.

Maria is a Bilingual Mental Health Counselor. Virginia Satir said it best "As a therapist I try to be a companion and help people tune into their own wisdom". I strive to be that person for my client in their life that is capable of hearing and holding their pain. I have experience working with infants, children, adolescent, adults, couples and families. My goal is to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for my clients where together we can work collaboratively to reach their goals. Life is hard and many times we aren’t taught how to navigate this human experience. Without the knowledge of how to process and manage emotions, connect with others, handle conflict, and love and believe in ourselves, among other things, we are left to roam with limited direction. This is exacerbated by experiences in which we were invalidated, dehumanized, abused, and neglected. As a result, we may experience persistent emotional pain, disconnect, and lack of confidence impacting our daily lives, relationships, sense of self, and work.

I have enthusiastically worked with individuals experiencing a variety of life struggles and mental health challenges such as domestic violence, grief and loss, addiction, depression, and anxiety throughout my career. I also have experience working with couples struggling with communication difficulties, infidelity, and emotional distance. Early on I chose to focus on trauma when I noticed both the prevalence of traumatic experiences in the lives of my clients, and the profound effects of untreated trauma. I am certified in EMDR to promote healing and and help clients build lives full of authenticity, purpose, and meaning.

I am Level 3 Gottman Trained and subscribe to The Gottman Method for couples counseling. I am a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Professional (PMH-C).
