I'm not a typical therapist; if I ask you to be vulnerable, so should I. I'm John, and I am diagnosed with bipolar 2, learning disabilities, trauma, and a career change. This has given me the ability to understand people and provide a similar safe space that I was given to grow. Honesty is key to growth, and I learned that life sucks sometimes and that it's okay to feel that. If you wear a mask to cover your true self, you're preventing happiness, love, and the development of resilience. Let me empower you to find your true self and navigate challenges effectively.

Accepting New Clients! Are you pregnant but not feeling like yourself? Or a new mom who feels like you are failing in the parenting business? Feel like you get upset with your partner for what seems to be “small things"? Perhaps you are trying desperately to get pregnant only to be faced with infertility or recurring miscarriages. Depression in women is quite common, we just don’t go around talking about it. We put on a happy face and do what we feel is expected of us. But statistics tell us that approximately 20% of women experience depression or anxiety while pregnant or just after having a baby.

I’ll listen, help identify blocks, & turn your inner narrative into a voice that is compassionate and constructive.
Reaching this new chapter of life felt like a milestone and you couldn't wait to get started. But now that you're here, your brilliant future is a blank page. Where do you even begin? It's so overwhelming that you get caught up in the day-to-day tasks, taking care of others, procrastinating, doom-scrolling... You never really get to the thing that moves your own story forward; not that you even know what that "thing" would be. So instead you end up spinning with anxiety or beating yourself up with words you wouldn’t say to an enemy. You feel the clock ticking. Everyone else is making plans, leveling up... Why can’t you get unstuck?

I was educated in a psychodynamic framework and was trained in CBT, ACT, narrative, & play therapy in clinical practice.
Taking the step to seek treatment is incredibly brave but can be daunting; clients can expect that I will be a warm, active participant who is honored to guide them through the process. I work with children, teens, and adults to explore how elements of their histories may contribute to their current concerns and interfere with their ability to thrive. My specialization is in loss and trauma but I also treat anxiety, mood instability, parenting, and relationship issues. Clients at times have difficulty connecting with others or achieving their goals; I frequently integrate various tools and techniques to best help each individual.

Authenticity, honesty, empathy and creativity is what I have based my practice on. Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
