There is no on-size-fits-all approach to therapy. I will provide you with a safe, non-judgmental, culturally sensitive and trauma-informed space for you to feel comfortable and work collaboratively with me through psychodynamic approaches to individual and relationship therapy.

Sometime all we need is a good friend, a front porch and a cup of coffee to deal with life’s stressors, and other times we just need a little bit more. I'm here to help create that safe, collaborative and therapeutic environment where individuals can feel heard and supported and together we can work to process what life puts in your path. Whether it's feelings of sadness or overwhelming worry, difficulty concentrating, a life transition, difficulties in your relationships, peer conflict or a worry about a loved one, together we work to create a safe place to explore, process and grow.

Life has changed beyond expectations. Many of our careers, educational life and values have become unsettled. I am a good fit for highly sensitive people, who amidst this change, are in a life transition such as college disruption, trauma, relationship problems and work issues. The pervasive stress, resulting in depression, confusion, anxiety, OCD, addiction and disruption, will be met with deep listening, reflection and compassion. For those whose minds have been effected by psychedelic drugs, marijuana, childhood trauma or bipolar tendencies, we will work together to create clear, practical strategies for health/recovery.

My experience lies in helping clients (children, adolescents, adults) navigate mental health and wellness concerns, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, social anxiety & fear, anger management issues, life transitions, family and relationship issues, parenting skills, academic & career motivation, oppositional behavior, etc. I utilize evidence-based treatment modalities (CBT & DBT) while incorporating a person-centered approach that borrows from existential and spiritual wellness philosophies. I specialize in working with clients from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ community, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Simply being a woman can be stressful! Add in trauma with its intrusive thoughts, and intense emotions or anxiety or depression with its worry and regrets, and it feels like your spinning out of control, it's too much. Maybe you just had a baby and you should be happy but you're anything but. No-one gets you and the mommy guilt is agony. Possibly your birth experience was even frightening and you cant stop reliving it. Tackling treatment might feel scary, but know that I "get you". I listen and will be by your side, teaching you the skills to cope so you can live the life you want to live, present and at peace.

My name is David, and I am a licensed clinical social worker and certified case manager with 14 years of experience in the medical and mental health field. I hold a Master's Degree in Social Work from Stony Brook University, specializing in healthcare, and a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University at Albany, where I graduated with high honors from the School of Social Welfare. Throughout my career, I have devoted myself to helping clients overcome life's struggles in the healthcare and mental health industry. I am licensed in NY, FL and NJ.

My counseling style is multi-modal with emphasis on Cognitive/Behavioral, Motivation Enhancement (Motivational Interviewing), Humanistic, and Brief Solution focused therapy. I h experience working with children, adolescents, and families focusing on family crisis, conflict, and relationship issues. I also have experience ( 6 yrs) of providing EAP services for Employee Assistance Programs providing solutions focused interventions for EAP clients. I provide crisis intervention counseling and self harm prevention. My approach is solution focused with an self-insight approach to problem solving. Taharka Sankara holds a Masters of Social Work degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. He is licensed in the State of New Jersey in the fields of Social Work and Alcohol and Drug Counseling. Counseling experience spans across various treatment modalities with diverse populations. Many years spent counseling adolescent and adult males with addictive and criminal behaviors in individual, group and family sessions to address the underlying issues of trauma, substance abuse and other co-occurring behavior and mental health disorders. He works primarily from a solution-focused, strengths-based, client-centered framework.

I believe you already have the answer to your problem. If you’re unaware of that answer, my job is to help you uncover it. If you’re conscious of it, my job is to help you accept it. In both cases, we work together as you decide what you’re going to do next. Either way, you are the expert on your own life. I ask the questions and help you sift through your options.

BeginWithin was officially co-founded in 2006 in Red Bank, NJ, by Donna Gallagher, MS, RD and Marnie Fegan, Psy.D., to provide a healing environment that was not only professional, but also warm and welcoming. I can rattle on about my 30 years of experience and training and all of that but it’s not what drives my passion and love for this work. I believe in the healing power of relationship itself. Building trust and sharing human connection is what creates the safe bond that is necessary for processing pain, trauma, and all of the other stuff of life! How’s that for clinical jargon?!
