*** I am currently only taking clients for supervision*** Hello! I believe that therapy is about the relationship that you have with your therapist. Connection and collaboration is what is important in this line of work. I am an expressive arts therapist working with adults who are interested in making positive changes, taking next steps in life, and working on themselves to be the best person they can be. I meet you where you are to go over your strengths and see what you are looking to change. Then we work on your plan with goals for you to meet. I use humor and a laid-back style to help you feel comfortable enough to share.

Everyone comes from a different path of life. At times, our journeys can be overwhelming and can leave us feeling anxious and depressed. They can add up to us feeling isolated, like support is a distant option. As a human being, I don’t believe that people should feel alone or struggle alone. Along with that, I feel called to be an advocate for mental health and overall wellness. I specialize in providing support and guidance to those who are navigating the challenges of anxiety, depression, and life changes. With a deep commitment to empowering my clients, I offer a safe and nonjudgmental space for healing and growth.

Life's challenges are best understood contextually and faced collaboratively. I believe we, as a society, have built a world that does not account for what we need to thrive. Because of this, I see my clients as courageous to ask for help in navigating it. In counseling, I provide a warm, supportive and, at times, challenging environment in service of your growth. If you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, anger, or other patterns that are not working, I strive to provide a space for us to do the work of healing together. I work with adults of all ages.

Pete works with his clients on coping skills to reduce negative thinking and behavior, exploring communication patterns within family systems, and helping people break down the challenges presented by problems like depression and anxiety into smaller, more manageable pieces.
Pete has more than 15 years of experience as a teacher and counselor. Pete approaches his work from a systems perspective and his areas of interest include working with adolescents, individuals and families struggling with addiction, and couples. He also works with individuals of all ages to help them explore their beliefs and how those beliefs affect their present selves. Regardless of the root of symptoms, exploring how we think about ourselves and the world around us and working to replace the behaviors and beliefs that no longer serve us often help us get unstuck and move forward to achieving our goals.

Are you seeking change? Do you want to let go of what no longer serves you? Are you eager to feel better about yourself and your life? For over 30 years as a therapist, educator, and clinical supervisor, I have enjoyed empowering both individuals and couples to become their own therapist, developing profound insight and applying useful tools. I help my clients find their own inner guidance. They can then move from depression to joy, anxiety to calm, conflict to peace, and hopelessness to gratitude. They come to know themselves better, feel more confident, appreciate their unique inner gifts, and navigate their lives more smoothly.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
