It may involve music, sand play, psychodrama, or even, ironically, watching tv and movies! I use a person-centered approach based in Acceptance and Commitment, Cognitive Behavioral, DBT, and Narrative therapies.
Accepting Clients! Do you struggle with feeling happy, communicating clearly, or building fulfilling relationships? Do you wonder how past trauma is still affecting you? Understanding your past can be the key to your future! Together, we will explore issues such as survival of interpersonal violence, an addicted parent, witnessing a violent event, natural disasters and other traumatic events that have contributed to your addictive behaviors, mental illness, or unhealthy relationships. With this knowledge we will discuss healthy coping skills, building a support network, and planning for safety in the face of your triggers.

Focusing primarily on relationships, sexuality and trauma; and starting with the belief that relationships are central to our well-being, I partner with patients to create a warm and safe space in which to explore patterns that impact growth. Therapy is not only to heal past hurts, but also to improve current/future functioning. I see psychotherapy as a joint and dynamic process between patients and clinician. My work is informed by Polyvagal & attachment theories; and pulls from a variety of evidence-based models including mindfulness, narrative therapy, EFT & Gottman approaches, among others. I am trained in EMDR & hypnosis.

Along with engaging in traditional talk-therapy and utilizing evidenced based techniques (ACT, CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, Narrative), I enjoy incorporating other resources such as books (fiction and nonfiction), podcasts, poetry, art, and anything related to nature.
Living with a chronic illness (interstitial cystitis), I’m intimately aware of the toll it takes on the body, mind, and spirit— how it’s woven into the fabric of all aspects of living, how it has a tendency to keep us tethered to fear, hopelessness, and isolation. I believe in validating the reality of what is chronic and pervasive. I also believe it is possible to soften the grasp these diagnoses have on our lives. As a woman, I’m passionate about supporting those with conditions that are far too often invalidated and overlooked, such as IC, ENDO, & PCOS. Building community and connection offers something solid to be tethered to.

In my counseling approach I apply Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy mostly and Gottman and EFT with couples.
Have you ever felt like life gives you more questions than answers? I know that I have! Personally, I had a time in my life where I felt that way and am thankful I was able to navigate it with the help of an understanding therapist. I also love to come alongside people as they are stuck in a rut and are looking for some hope. It is exciting to go from a life of overwhelming confusion and frustration to a path of thriving.

How I Can Help: Build confidence and self-worth: Help you or your child develop a positive self- narrative and strong sense of self.
I have a passion for supporting youth, adolescents, and young adults experiencing challenges with depression, anxiety, communication, behavioral issues, and academic performance. As a social worker, I seek to address these concerns while considering family and community challenges. Navigating the demands of being a child, student, and parent can be difficult. When our lives become out of balance, it can negatively affect our relationships and sense of self. My goal is to help you build a positive self- narrative, highlight your resilience, and acquire skills to increase confidence and connection in your daily life.

Grounded in Person-Centered and Narrative Therapy, I create a supportive and empathetic environment where you're encouraged to tell your stories and find your voice.
I work with individuals (12+) on topics of LGBTQ+ concerns, anxiety, depression, emotional trauma, and family/relationship challenges. As someone who grew up in a large, blended, family, I have a deep appreciation for complex family dynamics and the challenges of adjustment. As a member of the LGBTQ community, I understand the difficulty of being in spaces where one cannot fully express their authentic self. My previous experience within a strict evangelical organization offers me perspective on healing from religious trauma. These lived experiences developed a natural compassion for others with these and other layered identities.

I use a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Experiencing Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.
The unfortunate truth about life is that it really doesn't get easier over time; we just have to get better at living it! As we grow and change, we encounter situations, relationships, and emotions that leave us feeling confused and lost. I provide a safe and non-judgmental space where you can begin to understand the life you have and create the life you want.

Narrative Therapists
Is narrative therapy evidence-based?
Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.
How long does narrative therapy last?
Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.
Does narrative therapy work?
Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.
What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?
Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
