I am a licensed clinical psychologist with 40+ years of experience. I have written, presented, and consulted extensively about diversity, developmental psychology, multiculturalism, severe psychopathology, childhood abuse, trauma, sexual assault, community/domestic violence and African-American mental health. I believe everyone has a right to wellness & use strategies that promote humor, hard work, experiential learning resilience. There is a saying: "You do not have to teach a cut how to heal, you just have to create the best environment for healing to take place." My goal is to create a loving space for healing to take place.

Accepting new in office and telehealth clients, late afternoon availability for scheduling. Mental health care is a part of chronic healthcare and asking for help can be the hardest place to start. Mental health is a struggle that we all deal with in our own way, sometimes we need guidance and encouragement. I believe a therapist's role is to support individuals in their efforts to cope and adapt on their own. Through the journey of therapy, I want to be someone who can point out patterns that may be hindering you from reaching your fullest potential.

We believe emotional wellness matters (a lot), and that everyone has the right to make it a priority. Unfortunately, it’s not always that simple. So many questions can get in the way. Maybe you’ve even asked them yourself: Is this normal? Can talking to someone really help me? What is therapy all about, anyway? What would people say if they knew I was going? How do I find the right therapist? Will I be comfortable there? When will I find the time? Will my insurance pay for this? If this sounds like you, you’re not alone. And we can help. To learn more, visit www.sonderwellness.com

Oftentimes we find ourselves stuck in patterns and cycles that we struggle to get out of, let alone have hope for to change. These patterns might be a well-rehearsed dance with another person or even a full cast of characters, or simply of our own internal world that ripples outward into our life. Through increased awareness of the dynamic between things within self and dynamics within relationships, we can disengage from the ineffective and instead move intentionally toward a more functional, fulfilling way of being.

I believe in the importance of sharing knowledge about the mind-body relationship of trauma, panic, anxiety, and depression, to help my clients understand what they have been experiencing and why, and how to move forward. My specialties are school-aged children and adolescents and their families, and young adults, but I do trauma-focused therapy with all ages. My clinical interests include trauma, anxiety, panic, depression, and transitional stress, whether that be exploring or revealing sexuality and/or gender identity, developmental transitions, managing increasing expectations of early adulthood, or navigating life changes.

Stress and anxiety can make getting through the day horrible. And then you get to the night where you replay all of it over in your head, or find yourself scrolling to avoid it all. Just to wake up tired to start over again. Or maybe you know that "thing" that happened keeps popping up due to triggers throughout your day, and you know its holding you back. I am so sorry you're struggling. I know it sucks. You don't deserve it. You don't have to go at it alone.

David is a dedicated therapist with a profound passion for treating PTSD. His approach heavily rooted by his special interest in interconnected neurobiology, a term coined by Dr. Daniel Siegel. Interconnected neurobiology explores the intricate connections within the brain and how they influence our emotional and psychological well-being. This perspective underscores the importance of understanding the brain's complex networks and their role in mental health. David offers a holistic and effective path to recovery, addressing not just the symptoms but also the underlying neural mechanisms.

I seek to help people find hope and light in dark times. I love working within youth, young adults, and families to help mend concerns and disconnects within important relationships because relationships are a foundation of life. In addition to relationships I love working one-on-one to help clients find new ways to heal and cope with whatever their life situations may be: mental illness, life changes, grief, loss, transitions, and any other obstacle that is ever present in life today. Each person has their own story and I am humbled to help clients navigate theirs.

It is an honor and a privilege to walk with clients as they navigate the challenges and joys of life. Anna believes that it is important to meet people where they are, and work with clients to create the kind of life they find fulfilling. Clients come to therapy for a variety of reasons, some of which include depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse, life transitions and changes, family and relational concerns, substance abuse, grief and loss, body image issues, need for coping strategies to manage stress, and many other reasons. Therapy can be a safe space to explore concerns, to grow, and to heal.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
