CBT, SFT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness are all strategies with helping you cope with these issues, and find serenity.
Are you grappling with depression? Are you noticing life is difficult to cope with because of family issues? Dealing with marital issues or divorce? Is running around trying to fix things, prevent things, or cover for things driving you insane? Are you preparing to make a major life change or one happened to you unexpectedly? Are you struggling with your racial identity along with soul searching? Are things spiraling out of control in your life? Have you been ostracized by family/religious groups?

I am trained in in the areas of somatic therapy and the contextual and behavioral sciences including mindfulness, body-oriented trauma resolution, embodied boundaries and communication, the experiential arts, and transpersonal-based modalities.
The easiest way to schedule is through my website and the best contact is email. Change, although inevitable, can be difficult and feel ruthless especially when life takes a turn you don't expect. We can start feeling lost, alone and out of touch with ourselves and those around us. Each of us are vulnerable to the pain, grief and the uncertainty of the human condition. In this way, I believe we can each benefit from a safe and non-judgmental space that allows us to put our guard down and encourages us to learn, be flexible and rest more fully into the natural process of simply being ourselves and listening to our own wounds.

I am a certified mental health provider of the American Diabetes Association, and utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as well as elements of mindfulness and Satter’s Eating Competence model.
Our mental health and physical health can be impacted by life’s stressors or competing priorities. Increased stress can lead to depression, anxiety, emotional eating, out-of-control eating and other problematic behaviors. Stress can impact sleep and chronic health conditions that you may be managing, and can lead to you feeling like you’ve lost touch of your values and leaving you feeling stuck in a pattern of failure. I am here to help you regain balance with your mental and physical health and reestablish your priorities. Reconnecting with your values will lead to long lasting change.

I use CBT, DBT, and Solution Focused work, using mindfulness, breathing techniques, visualization, and goal setting to help clients reach their short and long-term goals.
My ideal client is someone who comes to therapy in a time of need. They might be experiencing anxiety due to life changes and transitions or they might be experiencing symptoms of anxiety for the first time and be concerned as to where the anxiety came from. The client might be processing loss or grief from a loved one or past friendships and or relationships. My ideal client will have needs such as needing to identify coping skills to get through life stressors, assistance with reaching goals. As a therapist I would be able to provide the client with a objective perspective to bounce their ideas and situations off of.

Using a combination of somatic therapy and a mindfulness-based approach, I help you change your relationship to your past so it doesn't continue to haunt you.
When was the last time you showed up for yourself with the same love and compassion you have for those around you? All too often shame and self-judgement feed anxiety and insecurities, getting in the way of feeling good about yourself. I can help you quiet the self-judgement, calm your anxieties, and learn to really value yourself. You can have your own back, set boundaries without guilt, and feel comfortable in your own skin.

With over 30 years experience in community agency and private practice, I serve clients from wide ranging backgrounds, with an extensive range of presenting issues. I view "problem" behaviors in a non-pathologizing way: we're all trying our best, using self-protective approaches to life's challenges that we've developed along the way, some of which may no longer serve us well. I use a humanistic, mindfulness-based approach in a safe, accepting and confidential environment. With every client who enters my office, I am honored and inspired by the uniqueness of each individual as well as the commonality of our shared human experience

I work with children (ages 3-18) who are experiencing anxiety, depression, academic stress/pressure, friendship concerns, low confidence, anger and strong emotional reactions, concerns related to Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), grief, loss, divorce, and life adjustments. I am particularly skilled at building and maintaining a trusting relationship with adolescents in order to help them feel understood, heard and valued. In addition, I work with emerging adults as they adjust to college, careers, and living independently. Adults that I may see often struggle with anxiety, overwhelm, depression, work/life balance, relationship difficulties, and parenting concerns.

I’ve published and presented internationally on mindfulness, meaning, identity, post-traumatic growth, cancer, and happiness.
Accepting new clients! I help people overcome difficulty and use it to grow and pursue a life of meaning and purpose. Sometimes we start by treating stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, career, or LGBTQ+ and other identity issues, and over time turn to deeper issues about the life you want to create, your identity, and your values. I’m a humanistic counselor, which means I’ll never tell you what to do and I’ll always empower you to make the choice that’s best for you. I use a collaborative, gentle approach that helps you connect with your intuitive sense of self and your intrinsic motivation to grow and do difficult things.

I utilize a variety of evidenced-based psychotherapy approaches through CBT and DBT techniques including identifying negative thinking, distorted thinking patterns, core mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation.
Hi! My name is Tara and I am the owner of Peace of Mind Counseling Service. I am a licensed professional counselor in Ohio with 7 years of clinical experience. Positive mental health is fundamental to living a healthy well-balanced life. Although the general perception of mental health has improved in recent times, people can still be fearful of the negative stigma that is attached to mental health illnesses. This can add to the anxiety and fear of seeking mental health treatment. I can provide treatment and coping skills to manage life stressors while showing clients respect and support in a therapeutically safe environment.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
