My therapeutic orientation is an integrated approach using aspects of applied behavioral analysis, CBT, existential analysis, and mindfulness practices.
Life is oftentimes unsatisfactory and stressful which causes emotional pain and suffering in our daily lives. We learn to cope with this suffering by clinging to negative thoughts, feelings, and reactivities that seem inescapable. My purpose in therapy is to bring an empathic and compassionate awareness and understanding of these negative attachments and provide practices to generate a positive wholesome sense of self and well-being.

Celiano guides clients in the art of mindfulness, emotional regulation, and body-based wellness practices.
Safety, trust and encouragement are imperative ingredients to a successful therapeutic relationship. As a seasoned therapist my ideal client seeks a collaborative relationship and is eager to invest in greater self-understanding and willingness to take action. Clients battling stress-related issues that compromise performance in work, school, or intimate relationships are a good match. Transforming anxiety, despair, and self-doubt into courage, inspiration, and confidence is my strength. I'm comfortable addressing thoughts that disempower or emotions that are frightening.

I am author of journal articles on collaborative assessment & therapy, and co-author of the book, Mindfulness-Based Sobriety (2014).
I offer collaborative psychotherapy for anxiety, depression, and substance use, using naturalistic research-supported approaches that enhance awareness, access strengths, and build skills. These approaches - which vary according to individual needs and preferences - include mindfulness, depth-oriented counseling, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Existential Psychotherapy. Particular concerns may include worry, panic, obsession, procrastination, grief, esteem, frustration, habits, and/or motivation. The overarching model promotes psychological growth, transcendence of purpose-limiting "world views," and personal empowerment.

My top priority as your counselor is to understand you as a whole individual and then reflect that understanding back to you. By focusing on the many unique identities that make up who you are, I work with you to tailor specific interventions that work for each individual I see. I firmly believe that hope comes from the development of skills and it is my job to help the hopeless develop and strengthen their skill set to face the challenges that work, life, and relationships may bring.

My clinical training offers integrated and flexible approaches to treatment, utilizing a trauma-informed perspective when appropriate, and incorporating components of Family Systems, Relational, CBT, Expressive and Mindfulness approaches.
Life is complicated and seldom straightforward. We are often left facing challenges that are surprising and difficult to navigate. It may be a new role, a disappointment at work, a problem in a relationship, or some lasting echoes from the past that still show up, that causes us to feel anxious, angry, sad, confused and “stuck”. We try our best to manage by using coping strategies that turn out to be more problematic than helpful. We are then left thinking, what happened? Will I ever feel like my old self? Why can't I just get over this? If you are anxious, struggling to focus, overwhelmed by work or family, I am trained to help

Grounded in a psychodynamic approach, I draw on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), existential therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness, and somatically rooted therapies to meet the unique needs of each client.
Throughout life, there are many challenges and decisions to navigate while we process and learn from our own experiences. How we make sense of them and give experiences meaning is crucial in moving from feeling stuck towards being fully authentic and present in life. Together, we can work through barriers and move towards a place of self-compassion. I work with adults experiencing life transitions, chronic pain, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and self esteem concerns. My own background as a musician informs my approach to working with performance anxiety as well as my interest in working with other creatives and performing artists.

I also integrate mindfulness and somatic techniques, because sometimes words are not enough.
Are you feeling trapped or overwhelmed by life's challenges? Does something feel "off," but you don't yet have words for it? A strong therapeutic relationship can empower us to live the lives we want by challenging the stories we tell about ourselves and the world. Asking for help can be daunting, so I work to create a safe environment that supports my clients in being fully themselves. Since each person comes to my practice with their own vision of what a fulfilling life looks like, I use a collaborative approach to meet each person's unique needs.

I am constantly studying the newest research in counseling, mindfulness and neurobiology.
I have worked with people from all walks of life for over two decades. I am goal-oriented, like to get to the point, and work with you to offer real-life solutions, instead of staying stuck in the past. Yes, I'm compassionate and gently curious too, but I like to get down to nitty-gritty and get you feeling better ASAP. I also have a degree in philosophy and enjoy helping people look for meaning in their lives if that is what they need to feel better about themselves

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
