My Doctorate is in Clinical Psychology from Alder University, Chicago. I bring to my practice the experience of a first full career in education. My area of expertise was Reading and Learning Disabilities emphasizing thought, language, the process of comprehension and meta-comprehension. This influences my therapeutic work in using the power of narrative. I collaborate with each client in an environment of respect, dignity, and compassion. I provide pathways to understanding positive changes: with experiencing personal distress; in personal growth; with interpersonal and family relationships; and, in school or career development.
I have worked in community mental health, half-way houses, juvenile justice, schools, evaluation of hospitalized seriously mentally ill children, and private practice. I hold mindfully the effects of trauma and exposure to violence, and the many facets of loss on a person's life and the lives of caregivers.
I believe people look to make life better, and have the resources to make that happen. What happened supersedes what's wrong. A person's worth is indisputable. I take an integrative approach offering a narrative framework, cognitive-behavioral supports, and mindfulness-based strategies that fit each person's experience.
