I work with clients who want to stop feeling controlled by symptoms of anxiety, trauma, and depression. I have worked with survivors of multiple traumas including sexual assault, child abuse, interpersonal violence, war trauma, and torture. I also work with postpartum women who want to feel like themselves again. I help men and women recognize and heal from the effects of limiting cultural ideas about who they should be based on their gender. I help people heal from chronic pain using cutting edge therapy techniques, and I often incorporate walking sessions into therapy to deepen integration of what is discussed during session.

Looking around at your life wondering how things got so out of alignment? Feeling anxious, depressed, or stuck in old patterns? Or maybe, as one of my clients puts it, you’d really like to “unfuck your life” but aren’t sure if that’s even possible? You aren’t alone, and I’m optimistic about your ability to forge a new path, because the act of seeking help is a sign of your strength, wisdom, and capacity to heal. I’m specialized in helping those whose lives have been touched by substance abuse—either their own or that of a family member—and worked in addiction treatment at every level of care prior to going into private practice.

For years I have worked with clients who are moving through major life transitions and grief, or working with depression, anxiety, or psychological trauma. When we suffer from distress, I believe we are simply "forgetting" our natural wisdom and the fundamental health that lies beneath our outward problems. Underlying my work is a essential belief that our soul is on a journey in this human body, and we are here to learn deep lessons and celebrate the gift of being human - this implies my optimistic view of human psychological distress.

A lot of us have a hard time asking for help. Fear, shame, or needing to be self-sufficient are feelings that can get in the way of recognizing when we need help--and reaching out and asking for it. My approach to therapy creates a safe place where sensitive, painful or scary feelings can be openly explored without judgment. We form a partnership to figure out what is going on and how to move forward. I'm actively engaged in our work--it's a partnership, after all--to help you overcome problem behaviors and develop better ways of coping. I am a Clinician with over 10 years experience in Colorado and California.

It’s hard being a human! And sometimes we need help figuring things out. Each of us desires contentment and fulfillment in our lives, but it's hard to access when we don't know what we don't know: what's really in the way?, and why does it keep showing up?what can I DO about this situation?, and who am I? These questions become increasingly loud during major life events, such as divorce, death, marriage, a career change, etc. We ALL experience this pain and confusion, but the good news is, you're not alone.

I specialize in trauma, emotional challenges, and men's issues.
You want real, lasting solutions, not psychobabble and fluff. Maybe you've tried therapy in the past but didn't get what you needed. Maybe you've thought about therapy but hesitated to reach out to someone. Maybe you're skeptical of people hiding behind fancy credentials while having little experience in the real world. Wherever you're coming from, I get it. You want change and real talk. There's something in you that's dissatisfied with how things are going for you, and you're ready to make change happen. I'm here to support you in that.

My clinical specialties include men's issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, EMDR, attachment issues, and life transitions.
As a psychotherapist I specialize in working with men, athletes, and adolescents as well as people suffering from anxiety, trauma, and depression . I believe that for change to occur, there must be a strong foundation of trust, safety, and openness to experience in the therapeutic relationship. I aim to cultivate healing relationships with my clients in which they can grow from these pillars to experiment with new ways of being. I view change as arising from increased awareness of our physical and emotional experience and I strive to help others develop these areas through the cultivation of mindfulness, authenticity, and openness.

I have been practicing for over 20 years and have extensive experience in successfully treating a wide range of issues including: trauma/abuse, PTSD, men's issues, and the effects of parental narcissism/borderline personality on adult lives.
There are times in life when difficulties feel insurmountable, and all you really need is to be heard. Sometimes the complexities of contemporary living present problems that get in the way of who and how we want to be. I can help you understand the obstacles that are undermining your happiness, and to trust again in your own intuition to discover the strengths that are already there within you. While we can't change situations of the past or the family's we were born into, there is potential here for you to better understand how your past experiences and/or current challenges are interfering with your ability to enjoy life fully.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
