Tim is Certified Sex Addiction Therapist. Many sex & pornography addicts and their partners say they have been to therapy, but it has not been helpful….until they have begun therapy with a CSAT(Certified Sex Addiction Therapist). Founded by Dr. Carnes the CSAT program was developed after years of extensive experience and research in the field of addiction therapy now considered the gold seal standard in sex and pornography addiction. The dynamics of behavioral addictions are complex; so much so that mental health professionals must take an entirely different approach to even begin the process of understanding addiction and recovery.

I promote improvement in my client's quality of life related to moods, relationships & sense of purpose. I approach clients where they are in their lives, relationships & moods in a manner that is accepting and encouraging. I believe people are their own best resource for understanding their present state, how they have arrived there, & having resilience to heal & move toward their goals. When clients are very stuck in negative moods, behaviors & relational patterns, I help them engage these through mindfulness, emotionally-focused & trauma healing therapies, which are based on understanding natural processes of healing & growth.

Life is difficult and, yes there is hope. Perhaps you have tried different approaches to find what you're looking for and yet nothing seems to have helped fill in that "gap" or that something that missing in your heart. I invite you to follow that thread; what in your heart that feels stuck? Consider even what comes up for you as I ask you that question? That internal struggle is good, it shows you're asking good questions and that you deep down know there's something more to be found.

It's time to make a lasting change, to get real and heal. Your life is too important. I help individuals unravel the complex stories of their lives. Life is full of twists and turns that pull us from our center, creating overwhelm and distress. Limiting beliefs picked up from childhood color our responses to loved ones and ourselves. We engage in behaviors that are disconnected from the person we really want to be. This feels awful.

My clients are often looking for something beyond skills, strategies and a diagnosis. I work best with people who are looking to really sort out what's going on in their lives, and who are interested in potent and lasting change. I also work specifically with people who are increasingly concerned about environmental issues or experience climate anxiety, grief or other feelings associated with environmental issues. As an avid outdoorsman and a Cross Country Ski instructor on weekends, I also frequently work with individuals from the climbing, skiing, mountaineering and other outdoor recreation communities.

Each stage of life presents us with its own distinct set of challenges and obstacles. I believe that when we learn how to properly direct our energies to meet and then overcome these challenges in our own unique way, we develop and mature towards greater well-being, growth, wholeness, and the freedom to be who we are. Sometimes it can feel too overwhelming, confusing, or painful to undertake such trials alone. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be that way. Seeking support is an act of courage and the first step towards creating the life you deserve.

I have spent the last 30 years working with children, adolescents, adults, and couples cultivating a treatment approach that aides in creating quick, long lasting, permanent change. This has led me down a path of studying the neurobiology of the brain and using treatment methods including Brainspotting, Mindfulness, Psycho-Neuro-Immunology and the Neuro-Psychology of the brain. I teach both nationally and internationally on these treatment interventions. Ask about my intensives.

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
