Hello! Thank you for considering me as your psychologist. I am taking new patients for both therapy and psychological evaluations. I am accepting virtual therapy patients throughout the state of Maine and in-person patients at my office in Blue Hill for therapy and evaluations. I utilize a variety of approaches based on patient needs, including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, exposure-based interventions, solution-focused approaches and trauma-informed treatment. I believe it is important to treat the whole person and not just the diagnosis, so we will also explore factors related to overall well-being.

I offer Exposure-Response Prevention (ERP), the primary evidence based treatment for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder as well as Systematic Desensitization for the treatment of phobias.
Does going for a walk, interacting with others, getting on an airplane, or letting go of obsessive thoughts seem impossible? I work with individuals with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, agoraphobia, and specific phobias to overcome these issues and live full lives. Exposure Response Prevention and Systematic Desensitization are short term treatments (typically less than 6 months) through which people overcome these challenges. Because treatment is short term, I have frequent openings as clients "graduate" from weekly therapy. Please reach out by email to inquire about openings.

To treat OCD, I use Inference-based Therapy (IBT or I-CBT), an evidence-based treatment for OCD that is gentler but as effective as doing exposures (ERP).
I received my BA with Honors from Brown University and my master’s from Boston College. I acquired my clinical training at McLean Hospital, Harvard Medical School’s largest psychiatric affiliate, in the division of Anxiety & Mood Disorders. I also trained at the OCD Institute, the nation’s first and foremost treatment center for obsessive-compulsive disorder. I help adults with anxiety and OCD move past the “what if's” and live life with confidence and trust. Most of my clients have OCD themes that center on identity, sexuality, morality, relationships, and harm (“Pure O”). I also treat couples struggling with communication issues.

I practice CBT (includes ERP, CPT, ACT, DBT) to treat OCD and Related Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Trauma- and Stressor-Related Disorders, Somatic Symptom Disorders, and I provide group therapy for OCD.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist serving residents of California and Maine. Due to the barriers people often face while seeking help, my hope is to make the process a little easier by offering a secure space to participate in therapy from the privacy of your own home via Telehealth. I offer evidence-based care for people who may struggle to find help due to geographic location, impact of mental health on daily functioning, etc. Working collaboratively with each person is something I strongly prioritize throughout the treatment process, while also striving to empower people to make effective, long-lasting changes in their lives.

My practice is focused on helping couples improve the quality of their relationships. Having healthy and secure relationships keep us physically and emotionally happier and healthier. When we feel disconnected, our body, mind and soul inevitably suffer. We all experience adversity and heartbreak; the trick is finding meaningful connection in the midst of challenges. The science of attachment provides an exciting roadmap to heal relationship distress. Learning how to seek and receive emotional comfort and connection creates resilience, protection, energy and is the antidote to the feelings of loneliness and helplessness.

I have worked across the continuum of all levels of care, age groups, genders, sexual orientations, races, and religions. My work combines honoring your individual story and path toward recovery with evidenced-based interventions to provide you with the tools and information you need for that journey. For my younger clients, this often also includes working with parents so they can effectively support their loved one's recovery.

Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?

Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?

Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?

While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?

The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
