I believe that we all have an innate capacity for healing and growth. Therapy allows us to tune into our strengths and our inner resilience. My practice is rooted in a trauma-informed perspective where I strive to facilitate a safe and collaborative environment in which to explore healthier ways of being. I also believe that a relationship based on a foundation of trust is important so you feel comfortable to explore deeply personal issues, develop self-awareness, and embark on the process of personal growth.

Is your life turning out the way you planned? Are your personal relationships fulfilling? Are you finding the right job for you? Do people get who you really are? Too often we lose track of the way we exist each day. Depression over past mistakes or anxiety about what might happen in the future prevent us from being who we want to be in the present. The goal of existential counseling is to help you develop a better relationship with your "self" first, and then to improve your relationships with others. To help you gain more confidence in the decisions you make daily and to worry less about how others will judge you in the future.

Connection and presence are medicines I’ve cultivated over twenty years of intensive contemplative practice, as an ally to children and their families, and through service as an ordained meditation teacher and spiritual counselor. In my own journey, I’ve been humbled by the many facets and layers of the healing process. I understand well the tremendous capacity for the psyche to accommodate unresolved trauma by intricate and patterned coping means. This tempers my approach towards one of gentle courage with clients. Together we learn to find a pacing that creates safety for making contact with what hurts.

My passion in this work is to connect deeply with clients. Research tells us that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the most important factor in positive outcomes in therapy, and I devote my attention to cultivating this relationship with empathy, authenticity, and compassion. I believe that you, the client, are the expert of your experience, and my role as therapist is to provide a quality of relationship that allows you to safely explore who you truly are, without judgement.

There are times in life when something is bothering us and we can’t understand why we are perpetually distressed by this situation or event. Why do we keep going over and over the problem only to come to the same conclusion and, yet, still feel unfulfilled? What’s wrong? It helps to share these complex thoughts and feelings with others who can help give new perspective and create meaning where there seems to be none.

This has been a time of great change for all of us. So to make life just a little easier, I've lowered fees to make therapy accessible to everyone, added TeleHealth for those impacted by COVID and/or who don't have a counselor nearby. For in-person visits, I even have a "therapy puppy" who is in training as a therapy dog. The benefits of therapy animals is well documented and our therapy dogs have been a great success with clients. I'm also a Maine and Florida licensed counselor with over 20 years of experience, specializing in depression, anxiety, stress, and trauma. Call/text or book right on line at www.TherapyInternational.com

I am here to help you get your life in balance. There are infinite ways in which this can happen. I will work with you to identify the pathway forward that is the most comfortable and appropriate for your spherical situation. I use the term spherical because there are always multiple layers that are interwoven below the surface. Rarely is it linear and one solution to meet your goals and needs. We say "It takes a village", I am here to help guide you through the process of change as you work to adjust, transition, and create the best version of yourself. I look forward to connecting and working alongside you and your supports.

I am here to support and empower women who have lost their sense of self. There are many obstacles we encounter in life and sometimes it takes someone sitting with us and exploring what is making the mountain seem immovable. Often women come into counseling not knowing where to go next. I specialize in helping women set up goals and develop a path to achieve them. I also enjoy working with couples, to help them develop healthy ways to handle conflict, and also those trying to blend a family. I specialize in working with Christians who are struggling to make sense of things and incorporate their faith into their healing journey.

How can I find a therapist in Maine?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
