I specialize in working with individuals, couples, and families struggling with overcontrol/excessive self-control. This can show up as rumination, hyper-perfectionism, rigidity, difficulty relaxing, and emotional loneliness (even with loved ones around). These challenges can intersect with substance abuse, suicidal ideation or attempts, and/or self-harm. Often, an overcontrolled coping style is central to conditions such as chronic anxiety/depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders like obsessive-compulsive and avoidant personalities. This way of coping may exacerbate or perpetuate trauma and grief symptoms as well.

Welcome! I speak with anyone and everyone, while focusing on people who live non-normative lives. I work with people who are different, and those who love and care for others who are different. In my practice, I provide you with a place to speak freely, so that through this unique experience you can become yourself in a new way. I have extensive experience working with youth, couples, and families. I am here for people who are othered in any form under capitalism-colonialism, and I prioritize your finding truth and connection in this world. In our work, nothing is assumed. In speaking together, new and old things become possible.

You have already taken an enormous step towards your healing by beginning to look for a therapist, so first take a moment to express gratitude for yourself. You want to feel at ease, liberated, seen, understood, connected to others, and comfortable taking up space. I can help! As a 2-SQT/LGBTQ+ Affirming, Anti-Racist, Trauma-Informed, Intersectional, and Liberation-Based therapist, I acknowledge that systemic harm, like white supremacy, generational trauma, and the violence and abuse that is perpetuated by trauma and oppression can have deep, lasting scars that that impact our relationships with ourselves and others.

Hey there! I’m a postdoctoral fellow who works with adults (18+) virtually in CA. I utilize a warm, compassionate, and relational approach to therapy, grounded in evidence based practice (DBT, CBT, ERP, & ACT). In the therapeutic space, I show up as my authentic (& imperfect) self, while bringing kindness and humor to sessions. I am also a liberationist clinician and enjoy exploring with clients how to engage in mindful self care and process the impact of societal oppressions. I am a foodie, plant parent, animal lover, and social justice advocate who enjoys binging shows, collecting crystals, and spending time with my loved ones.

Are you and your partner(s) looking for counseling? Whether due to stress outside the relationship, wanting to feel closer to each other, or repairing a rupture from cheating, I can support you through your relationship journey. As a marriage and family therapist, I firmly believe in the transformative power of relationships, but that doesn’t mean they are easy to navigate alone. All relationship orientations are welcome monogamous or nonmonogamous. While my practice focuses on queer relationships, I'm also happy to work with queer people of color for one-on-one therapy. I’m an ideal therapist for folks new to/scared about therapy.

I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who is currently being supervised by Donna Chapman.
Let’s collaborate so we can work together to support your ongoing healing and growth. I work towards engaging from a compassionate, anti-oppressive, and trauma informed positionality. One of my focuses is on collaborating to better understand yourself as an integrated mind/body/spirit/social/relational being (soma) and reprocessing what your soma holds. Some of the ways in which we can do this is through building upon the stories that empower you and learning skills for personal and/or interpersonal fulfillment. We all deserve to live our lives liberated from the reactive survival responses of trauma.

Starting a new relationship is a big step. And one of the most important steps in therapy is finding a therapist to build connection and space for healing. I aim to co-create an attuned, safe, and collaborative relationship. Where we go in your therapeutic journey centers around your goals and individuality. Together, we can explore problem narratives, relationship patterns, oppressions that may impact you, and mind-body connection with warmth, curiosity, and compassion. I hope to accompany you through the (re)discovery of your inherent resilience to pursue growth that enables you to live authentically and explore new possibilities.

Your mood’s been down and you’ve been feeling anxious all the time. The past and the future both feel daunting, but being in the present isn’t any easier. Maybe you’re drifting through life, dissociating, or fixating on food so you can feel a sense of control when everything feels hopelessly out of control. You feel stuck between oppressive social pressures, past experiences, and who you really are. Let’s get you back to you.

Transitions are hard. There is often so much shame around trying to figure out who we are and asking for what we want. Am I going to burden others? Am I too much for people if I ask for something that I desire? Am I being "selfish"? Who am I to "demand" others for things I don't think I "deserve"? If these are some of the questions you have asked yourself, then I'm here to help. It's okay to feel lost, like you're wandering the woods alone. I'm here for you so we can wander these woods together.

It’s natural to feel lost sometimes. When you experience overwhelm, fear, loneliness, or disconnection, having a space to express yourself genuinely with a witness is medicinal. Reaching out for help can be hard and I appreciate everything it has taken for you to get here. Finding a trusted ally is an important step in receiving the help that you need to live fully, as you truly are. I believe in the healing properties of the therapeutic relationship and it is my honor to be a companion along my clients’ journeys.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
