Together, we can tackle issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship troubles, communication challenges, trouble performing at work or in athletics, insomnia and racing thoughts, or anger management.
Do things feel like they have been going in the wrong direction for a while? Maybe you’ve been butting heads with people at work, or are struggling to perform as well as you used to. Maybe your marriage or romantic relationship is on the rocks and nothing is working to get things good again. Is your stress level so high that you find yourself flying off the handle more than you’d like? Are you lying awake at night, or just feeling like nothing is enjoyable at all anymore? Reaching out for support is a smart and brave move, and I’m ready and available to work with you on new approaches to problems that seem unsolvable.

Waitlist for new clients
Please note that I currently have a waitlist. I work with adults and members of the LGBTQIA+ community who have challenges with anxiety, depression, and trauma. I also work with people who have experienced tough stuff in their childhood, or who are struggling with grief, relationship issues, or difficulties managing their emotions. My goal is to help you stop feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, and living life at a frenzied pace. Instead, our sessions can empower you to make big changes, encourage you to see healing and transformation as possible, and help guide you through positive changes to where things feel manageable again.

Over the last thirty years as a Clinical Psychologist, I have learned how children, adults, couples, and families break free of disheartening relational patterns and rewrite oppressive stories. I have learned how to attend to what matters most: feeling safe, opening to love, and creating a life guided by compassion. I truly love my work, and that may be because I am still learning every day how to ask questions that spark wonder and creativity, how to listen for the depth behind words, knowing when to be patient, when to challenge.

Many of my patients are recovering from addictions of various sorts. Many of them, as well as other patients, have mood disorders (anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder). I also work with individuals and families struggling with problems in work and career, marriage and similar relationships, and what are often described as existential or spiritual crises--the lack of a sense of meaning and purpose in life. I involve families in therapy when possible--people don't live and learn as isolated individuals.

Everyone can benefit from better self-understanding. Sometimes our anxiety, depression, and internal conflicts can affect our relationships with others and the world in which we live. By creating a safe environment for expressing thoughts and feelings, I am able to help those who enter into a therapeutic alliance with me improve general satisfaction in interpersonal relationships and life.

I have experience with anxiety, depression, couple/family/relationship issues, PTSD, substance use, personality disorders, minority stress, spiritual/religious/existential issues, anger management, and co-parenting.
Many come to therapy knowing only that they are struggling to get things done, their relationships have become a source of stress rather than comfort, or they need help processing trauma, loss, or other painful experiences impacting their daily lives. Whatever your circumstances, I strive to help each person or family I work with achieve greater emotional, psychological, and social well-being, while also alleviating symptoms. I use the power of storytelling and understand that each person I work with has many, important stories to tell. I also value and work with each person's nervous system in the healing process.

*NEW CLIENTS ACCEPTED via TELEHEALTH* Ever feel like you have a way to do something, and though it does not work the way it seems like it should, you feel it “works for you?” Do you find that you have a way of behaving and struggle to break free from yourself? I find that humans act in patterns. We think about a problem and act in a way that is the most comfortable to us and tend to repeat these patterns regardless of the result. I work with people living with depression, anxiety, trauma, anger concerns, separation/loss/grief issues, and people coping with discrimination.

In addition to the above issues, I have worked at length with those who want to control their anger.
Often people who come to therapy have already been struggling for some time: a feeling or way of thinking, relationship concerns, feeling overloaded with work or school, a particular loss or trauma, or just a general sense that something is wrong. You may know what you need, or may be unsure if psychotherapy can help at all. This is where therapy begins. I will work with you to develop a plan of action; if we can't come up with a plan that works for you within our first few meetings, I will connect you with someone who can.

I have a special interest in working with people suffering from anger, shame, feelings of hatred and guilt.
I am particularly interested in the intersection of sexuality and emotional intimacy. Some of my clients struggle to love well; others struggle with sex. But all of my clients, perhaps all humans, juggle the sometimes contradictory demands of love and sex. They want to feel safe and loved, but they also want the thrill of adventure. They want to feel known, but they are also intrigued by mystery. They want to feel attached, but they are also turned on by novelty. I enjoy helping individuals and couples explore their potential to find deeper emotional connection and greater sexual freedom.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
