The ideal client is someone willing to explore and further understand the current or historical issues creating barriers or concerns impacting current life. Goals would include short and long term goals to bring immediate and lasting relief; insight; behavioral and cognitive enhancement. There may be individuals who are eager to alter behaviors, thoughts, and feelings. There is a variety of methods to accomplish these goals that can be tailored specifically to the preferences of the client.

Treatment is results oriented, which means we work together at the beginning to define the changes that are meaningful to you. In a basic sense, psychotherapy is for thinking about feelings. We are all part of systems, be they family, work or society. The outcome is more freedom to be yourself. All inquiries referrals scheduling by phone: please call 508.885.3861. Repeat your calls (on the hour) to reach me quickest in person. No written messages! No computer inquiries!

Using attachment-based, cognitive, solution-focused, mindfulness-based, and trauma-informed therapy I ensure that our therapeutic relationship is a refuge from larger systemic trauma.
I believe the greatest gift a therapist can offer is full presence with a compassionate ear. Many clients seek therapy because something that was working for them is no longer working. Maybe you feel stuck, unseen, unheard, anxious, angry, or "enmeshed" in your interpersonal relationships. Maybe there's estrangement or you are contemplating cutoff. Maybe your values are being tested by your workplace. You have been here for a long time, but believed you needed permission to feel this way: "Just another year," "just a little more." In our therapy space, even if you take your shoes off at the door, you can bring your whole self.

Have you ever wondered if you could live a fuller, happier life? Whether you are "too far gone" or "too messed up" to ever be okay? I’ve wondered that. In my journey, I've discovered that it's possible to struggle deeply, then rise higher than seems plausible. I've also found healing and wholeness is impossible without support from others. Now I have a passion to provide the care I've experienced to each of my clients. The support you need won't be the same as what I’ve needed. Because your story is not mine. But if you’re looking for someone who has walked a long road to wellness, consider reaching out!

Life in our modern world can feel both overwhelming and isolating. It takes a lot to simply survive; working, raising a family, navigating relationships of all kinds, and expectations of instant communication with others. As we go through the motions of daily life, we can become disconnected from our-selves; the part of self that feels excited about life, that dreams, and feels wonder. When we are disconnected from ourselves, it is difficult to be connected to others in a way that feels fulfilling. This feeling of separateness can exacerbate symptoms of anxiety and depression.

I offer a trauma-informed, attachment-based, and anti-oppressive approach to my understanding of healing, incorporating mindfulness and somatic experience into my practice.
Accepting new clients for the summer months, now through early September. I believe in the healing power of relationships. At its best, therapy can be a place of offering company and witnessing to the parts of you that feel the most alone, fearful, ashamed, and uncertain.

I leverage the knowledge and stories of those I work with to help individuals gain insight, self-compassion, and acceptance in response to the obstacles that inevitably arise in life. These issues range from navigating relationship or adjustment difficulties to supporting clients with complex trauma. My intention is for individuals to be better able to create space for the future rather than the past alone and strengthen their capacity to overcome current difficulties. I have a special interest in attachment-based issues and support clients in identifying patterns that may be masking one's authentic self.

I pull from attachment-based neuroscience and trauma-informed practices.
I work with individuals to strengthen their sense of choice and meaning in their lives. I believe we can emerge more whole when we get curious about the parts of us that seem inglorious. I do not believe in oversimplifying the human condition into "good" or "bad" because there is more truth in the spectrum. I want therapy to be accessible, helpful and grounded in the reality that we live our day-to-day lives outside the therapy office. Good therapy extends beyond one hour a week; good therapy informs how we relate to, engage with and move through the real world.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
