I am trained in EMDR, Brainspotting, and IFS.
Welcome to my profile! I specialize in helping adults and adolescents transform their lives from ‘survive’ to THRIVE! Whether you feel stuck, discouraged or unsatisfied, it’s easy to get caught in survival mode. You may even wonder if you’ll ever feel joy again, which can leave you feeling hopeless and helpless. Perhaps it’s depression, anxiety, self-esteem, or relationship challenges holding you back. Finding the right therapist can seem scary because you want to make sure you choose someone who you truly connect with.

I often hear that people think that therapy is telling a complete stranger their life story while that stranger just smiles and nods, a type of one-sided relationship. While I will be a stranger to you at first, I'm also a real person. I'm someone who wants to connect with you while helping you navigate the story of your life. Making the initial call to seek therapy can be scary at first, but therapy doesn't have to be feared or difficult. I want to help you enjoy the process of identifying your goals and seeking to create the life you want to live. This process will be unique to you because therapy with me isn't one size fits all.

How has motherhood changed you? From conception to postpartum and even loss, it is a challenging experience that many of us struggle to navigate. We often feel we're not doing it right or establishing faulty expectations based on unrealistic beliefs. Experiencing pregnancy can be a joyful time while for many it can be a completely distressing experience. We tend to experience a disconnect following birth causing us to feel bouts of sadness, worrisome thoughts, panic attacks, irritability and shame, and even suffer with intrusive thoughts. It is important that you know these feelings, thoughts, concerns are normal and treatable.

I am working on becoming EMDR trained and learning how the past is related to the present to foster the long-lasting change that my clients seek.
Hi, I am Kristin, a licensed clinical social worker. Over the course of nine years, I have worked in a variety of settings with clients who have a range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and adjusting to life changes. My therapy style is client-centered and grounded in the autonomy and worth of my client. I believe that the most important part of therapy is the alliance created between myself and my client as this alliance becomes the vehicle for change that I often get to witness.

I am also an EMDR trained counselor, which is a specific modality for working with trauma.
We were not created to navigate life's challenges on our own. Often times we need others in these periods in our lives. It is my honor to walk with people during these difficult periods of life and help guide them towards healing. As the counselor for Shield of Hope Counseling, I aim to see restoration for people in their relationships with God, themselves, and others.

We all have problems, habits and "quirks" of personality and wonder sometimes when life gets rough, whether we need therapy or if it would be a good option. When life is getting on top of you, when you begin to feel strong emotions that you didn't know that you had, when you feel lost or hopeless or just want to reach your full potential, then give yourself a chance to seek a new solution. I can help. I believe that each individual is creative and unique and that there is no "one" way to be happy or live life. For New Orleans I offer virtual, telehealth appointments & EMDR and Gottman Relationship Counseling.

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
