EMDR
is my main modality to bring desensitization and resolution to client's traumatic stress.
I have experience working with clients from various backgrounds, presenting with multiple different mental health concerns. I have the most experience and training in working with survivors of trauma. Many of my clients have suffered unbearable loss, abuse, neglect, and traumatic experiences outside of their control. They need help in identifying and regaining control over their symptoms that stem from the trauma they have endured. They need a safe relationship in which they are able to reprocess the events and reactions to the hardest things they have experienced. They want to not feel trapped in their traumatic memory.

If you often find yourself lost or stuck in a pattern of living, maybe even frustrated because nothing seems to change, you've found the right place. These behaviors, these feelings, and these mindsets feel out of our control sometimes. Whether you're an adult or a parent with a child - anyone can find themselves unsure of what to do. I enjoy working with adult individuals and children with their parents through confusing behaviors and emotions - building connection, helping to find clarity, and walking through healing of past or present relational wounds. Together, we create new meaning out of something that once felt so confusing.

EMDR
and Brainspotting can do wonders in releasing toxic carried emotions that no longer serve you.
I am a therapist who specializes in trauma, grief, addiction, codependency, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and self-compassion. It takes such courage to reach out for help, and I want to make this experience as safe, non-judgmental and empowering for you as possible. If you feel stuck or lost in the same maladaptive, dysfunctional patterns, perhaps together we can foster a relationship for growth. Perhaps Cheryl Strayed said it best, “I’d finally come to understand what it had been: a yearning for a way out, when actually what I had wanted to find was a way in."

I incorporate many trauma-focused therapies that facilitate a deeper healing process -
EMDR
, Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, and a Psychobiological approach.
Are you tired of experiencing the same patterns and want to heal at the root of your symptoms? Often times just when things seem difficult, hopeless, or challenging we tend to retreat inward and isolate, when in truth, this is the precise moment that we need to reach out and form human connection. Your life may be overrun by fear and insecurities, or maybe you carry around deep shame about who you are and never feel quite “good enough”. If you want to be able to share your gifts and express yourself without fear, be confident, and heal the patterns that are holding you back, I would love to help you get there.

I successfully use
EMDR
Therapy with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, self-worth issues, performance troubles, PTSD, and other types of trauma.
Sometimes we just need a band-aid to get us through a rough patch, and other times a deeper dive into long-standing patterns and struggles is the right focus - both are valid approaches! Choosing the right therapist is an important step, so let's chat about questions you might have and make sure you get the right fit. I work with individuals, couples, and children, and from time to time I also offer group workshops. I have specialized training in
EMDR
, Play Therapy, and have over a decade of clinical experience. I am currently an LPC Board-approved clinical supervisor as well as an adjunct professor in Loyola's Counseling program.

Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
