Integrative Therapists in San Marcos, TX
With an integrative approach, I weave ancestral practices, narrative/storytelling exploration, somatic-embodiment, and expressive art therapeutic techniques to explore and transform the relationship you have with your shame, anger/rage, fear, and grief towards deep compassion, liberation, and connection.
I offer a therapeutic space that is queer-affirming, culturally responsive, and liberation-centered. As a therapist, I create a curious, compassionate, and non-judgmental space for those who are ready to explore themselves and their experiences through a relational lens. Together, we will explore and model what secure attachment and safe relationships feel like within the therapeutic space - toward ourselves, our experiences, our communities, our ancestors, and the natural/spiritual world.

How are you today? Really, how are you? Browsing these pages can be overwhelming – the unfamiliar words, the multitude of smiling faces. Those smiles can seem insulting in the face of overwhelming depression. Who do you pick? It’s okay to have questions and doubts; it’s okay to pick someone and change your mind once you meet them. My name is Cherise (she/her) and I am an LPC-Associate. This means that I have the education and experience to have a provisional license to counsel, but must do so under supervision. You not only have a qualified therapist, you also have a second, more experienced therapist behind the scenes.

Hi there, I'm Kelly. I know that there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to therapy, and I strive to meet my clients where they are at. I use strength-based, egalitarian, and person-centered approaches and believe in the major importance of creating a safe and shared space in which everyone can feel open to explore all aspects of themselves. Being vulnerable is not easy, and I acknowledge the strength and guts it takes to make that first step toward change.

I believe that we are influenced by social and biological forces, but our life is not fixed because of them. Together we will explore and discover skills and a mindset to cope, resolve, and/or transition into the new chapter that waits. Through our work together, my hope is that you will find meaning and grow from there, not allowing fences that others – or ones you have placed around yourself - to hold you back.

How about that mean loud voice in your head constantly hurling insults & reminding you of all your faults. Here are some other things you hate: being vulnerable, disappointing others, and putting yourself first. People and their stories have always inspired and humbled me. Helping others to walk through their shadows and experience the light is a true gift. Earlier in my life I went through some difficult experiences. The wilderness, music, art, and movement helped me to feel and learn to move through those hardships. My connection with the natural world has revealed my inner potential and helped me to heal from traumas. I am dedicated to incorporating my knowledge of therapy, relationship to the natural world, yoga and expressive arts for each person I work with. I believe in feeling all of the human emotions with balance and intention.

Integrative Therapists
What is integrative therapy?
Integrative therapy is a type of therapy that combines ideas and techniques from different therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the individual client. By merging elements of different treatments, an integrative therapist aims to offer a more flexible approach than those who practice just one type of therapy.
How does integrative therapy work?
Integrative therapy approaches a client’s mental, physical, and emotional health in a holistic way to discover the sources of their unhealthy behavior patterns or other challenges and considers the approach most likely to lead to improvement. Among the techniques an integrative therapist may practice are cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, art or music therapy, psychodynamic therapy, breathwork, family systems therapy, gestalt therapy, and trauma-informed therapy. An integrative therapist regularly evaluates the client’s progress and is prepared to pivot to a different approach if progress stalls.
How long does integrative therapy last?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for integrative therapy; people who find they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that spurred them to seek treatment. New patients should understand that it may take some time for a therapist to land on a treatment approach that best meets their needs, but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.
How effective is integrative therapy?
There are hundreds of types of talk therapy, and research shows that while they vary in form, goals, and frequency, many if not all can produce similarly successful outcomes. But a single approach does not always deliver the greatest, or speediest, benefit, and so even therapists primarily trained in one model will use tools, language, techniques, or exercises from others to shape an effective treatment plan.
