I work with those who may have problems with depression/anxiety, family and role changes, trauma, loss, learning disabilities/ADHD in children and adults.
Emotional distress is overwhelming and can interfere with your life. Professional support and treatment can help resolve many difficulties, relationships can become more fulfilling, and self image can be enhanced. I have a dynamic, warm and interactive style, and believe everyone has the ability to use their inner strength and awareness, as well as develop more effective ways of coping. I have been in private practice for fifteen years.

Working with individuals, couple and family struggles, anxiety, depression, adolescent transitions into adulthood, grief and loss, post-traumatic stress, anger management, post-partum adjustment and abuse.
I believe therapy offers us a unique opportunity to deal with the challenges we inevitably face. throughout our lives. Within each of us lies the ability for personal growth and insight. We may find ourselves struggling with life transitions, job loss, relationships, personal issues and a great deal of uncertainty. I believe that during these times the therapy process is beneficial in finding, creating and empowering the self towards healthy, meaningful growth and change.

It can be a chaotic world out there. The demands of work, financial struggles, unresolved grief, and constant stress can deeply affect our emotional and relational well-being. Sometimes, we just need someone to guide us towards a better path. Hi, I'm Teresa. I'm a wife, mother, grandmother, fur baby guardian, and innkeeper. I'm also a marriage and family therapist in private practice, with a heart for helping others achieve the emotional and relational well-being they've always desired. Picture a world where stress is minimized, conflicts are resolved, estranged relationships are reconciled, and emotional wounds are healed.

As an adult trying to navigate this world, you often find yourself wondering why everyone else seems to have it all figured out while you are struggling. Maybe you can't connect with your partner or you feel labeled by your family and are struggling to find who YOU really are. You hear advice from all different directions and have tried so many different things and nothing seems to be working. You feel defeated- and now it has become a cycle that is just getting worse. Maybe you can't sleep well or you're feeling disconnected. Imagine waking up tomorrow and feeling like you had a better sense of direction. What would that feel like?

Investing time to know my clients is essential to me as we are all impacted by family, social, cultural, and economical factors. I feel it is important that clients are given a safe space to share their stories. I have worked with children, teens, married couples, parents, and adults with various life situations, including people experiencing homelessness and addiction. I also have a history of working with individuals involved in ministry settings. I am a practical strategist for supporting people through life’s difficulties. As a heartfelt listener I love to help people find hope when they otherwise feel stuck.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
