It requires a sensitivity to the unique facets of each individual, couple and family.
Emotional and psychological well being rests on numerous factors. These factors are both historical and concurrent. Additionally, each person carries various coping skills and resources that need to be utilized, enhanced and incorporated to establish an effective protocal when contending with life's innate struggles and challenges. Healthy relationships, personal and professional, are the antidote to many of life's difficulties. Removing barriers that limit our relationships is key to establishing a balanced and enjoyable lifestyle.

I am fortunate to be able to start my second career after taking some time off to raise my family.
I am honored to walk with you. I believe that we can all move towards healthier lives, if that is what we truly desire. The difficulties we face are not who we are and can be used as opportunities to reclaim more pieces of ourselves. By removing barriers, we can see clearer and make decisions that will allow us to live more authentically. My goal is to provide a warm, safe environment to explore difficult issues. This will make the healing process easier and can create a space to find solutions that previously seemed impossible.

After 10 years in marketing, I pursued my calling to work with individuals, couples and families as they re-imagine their lives and relationships. Together, we address concerns like anxiety, chronic illness, grief, marital issues and family conflict. I also work with postpartum depression including traumatic births and parents of children with special needs. I know that taking a step into the unknown can be scary and overwhelming, but I believe that beginning this journey will change your life.

I also have extensive experience in trauma-related issues, addictive behavior/substance abuse issues, marriage and family therapy, grief and loss, and dementia.
The constant pressures of daily life, particularly during a pandemic, can leave us feeling overwhelmed, scared, and alone. As we try to navigate our way through issues involving school, work, relationships, life transitions, and grief and loss, we may feel so hopeless that we feel as if we cannot go on like this anymore. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I will provide support and guidance to help you identify unhealthy thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so that you can make positive and sustainable changes to improve your quality of life.

In family therapy, a decrease in overall symptomatic interaction and positive engagement guides treatment goals.
I feel that therapy is a process that people enter when they are searching for growth, change or acceptance. I can assist you with learning new skills or help you discover those skills that you didn't realize you posessed. I emphasize the process of change in the context of a life span development and treat children (5+), adolescents, adults and families.

Drawing from the frameworks of CBT, DBT, internal family systems, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, and narrative therapy, I work to provide clients with concrete tools that can assist them in living full, authentic lives.
I believe that therapy works best as a process of uncovering our truest selves. Oftentimes life hands us burdens of stress, anxiety, grief, trauma, and pain that weigh us down and make it difficult to encounter the world in ways that we would like. I believe each individual has a unique and important story to tell, and I find joy in walking alongside clients as they begin to peel away the layers of life’s burdens to uncover the light of their authentic selves. I strive to offer a safe space for clients to author a personal narrative that feels genuine, and I operate from a gentle, trauma-informed, strengths-based perspective.

Life's challenges can often feel overwhelming, especially for kids facing the pressures of school, family, and everything in between. They want relief from the pressure and to overcome past trauma, but it's an emotional rollercoaster that leaves them and their parents feeling helpless and frustrated.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
