Each client enters therapy for different reasons and I will draw upon the techniques and philosophies which are best suited to meet those needs including: Psychodynamic,CBT, Humanistic,Family Systems, Solutions (Brief), Play Therapy, Sand Tray and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing)and others.
People sometimes struggle with the idea of going to see a counselor. Often it's difficult to know where to begin. Sometimes finding the right counselor can mean finding new hope, new choices--a new life. My task is to create a protected space so that you'll feel comfortable and safe. I listen carefully, objectively, with kindness and humor and without judgment. I respond with training, intuition, insight, honesty, and engage a variety of techniques to meet your presenting issue. I consider it a privilege that clients are willing to share their lives with me and I honor that trust.

I am a board-licensed private practice therapist based in Austin, Texas. My approach to therapy is humanistic, holistic, strengths-based, and relational. When you’re struggling with your mental health, it may feel lonely and isolating because it can seem like you’re the only one going through a difficult time. The truth is, we all have those seasons in our lives and all we really want is someone to support us through it with untiring compassion and care. I welcome the opportunity to be that for you as your therapist and work together with you to heal your problematic thoughts and behaviors.

My therapy style is humanistic with a focus on attachment theory.
I understand that taking the step to begin therapy is a brave and powerful moment. It can be filled with mixed emotions of anxiety, fear, excitement, anticipation, among others. This is completely normal! I will work with you to help you feel at ease and create a safe space to help you feel more comfortable. However, everyone is unique regarding when they feel safe to be vulnerable in a therapy space, and I respect that of my clients. Therefore, I will meet you where you are at on your journey, and we will go at your own pace.

Humanistic Therapists

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualization and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
