Since everyone has the ability to improve and achieve their goals, I'm eager to assist anyone who is willing to help themselves. I've been a Vermont State Trooper for thirty years, so I have a solid understanding of the range of difficulties life presents. I have assisted people in resolving marital problems, difficult family dynamics, drug misuse struggles, bereavement, and a host of other particular difficulties that Vermonters encounter. My practice is based on the conviction that every challenge can be surmounted through effective communication and faith in oneself and others. I'm excited to speak with you.

Hello, and welcome! I applaud you for taking the first step to seek support to help you navigate whatever is going on in your life that has landed you here. I believe that a supportive counseling relationship is a powerful tool to encourage change and that clients have the skills inside themselves to overcome obstacles and realize their full potential. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, so I focus on finding the right tools and resources to create our path forward.

Choosing a therapist for yourself or loved one can be a difficult task. A true "Master" of the healing arts is one who has spent years learning, practicing, and refining their skills as a healer. Individuals, couples and families first entering into the therapeutic relationship often feel overwhelmed, confused, anxious and vulnerable. They need to feel safe by knowing that they are truly being heard and respected. They also need to trust that their therapist has sufficient experience to patiently guide them thru the process of self discovery on their path to wellness and feeling whole, perhaps for the first time in their life.

I wish to serve as a guide for my clients on their own journey towards self-discovery. I am practicing humanistic psychology and my primary focus is to create an empathetic, non-judgmental, and safe therapeutic relationship. By using person-centered counseling, I am able to help my clients discover their authentic selves. I wish to help reduce anxiety and aid my clients in developing a positive self-image for themselves. I am interested in learning and understanding my clients’ self-perceptions and view of their own reality. My belief is that our worth is conditioned by others and this often can be detrimental to our mental health.

Psychotherapy is very rewarding and challenging work. Anyone seeking to make themselves healthier needs to know that and be open to change. Despite how difficult it is to work through the issues that disrupt our lives, the reward is learning that life is a process worth living and improving on a continuous basis. I treat people with trauma issues, depression, anxiety, PTSD, career moves, family issues, OCD, addictive behaviors, relationship problems and interpersonal unhappiness often beginning with providing psycho-educational information such as personal boundaries, basic human rights, safety, and coping and advocacy skills.

I work closely with the LGBTQIA2+ community, grief and loss, new parents, and life transitions with a focus on spirituality.
We all arrive on this Earth with a plan. Sometimes the plan gets muddled, confusing and scary. Sometimes our labeling of these experiences as “bad” can create stagnation in growth and deny us the insight that we need to stretch into our higher versions of self. When we become aware of this, choice in growth is present. Growth is constant and never ending, especially during challenging times/barriers. However, we only grow when we embrace and feel curious about the uncomfortability. Making space for curiosity allows for integration of wisdom brought by the lessons in our suffering.

My clinical experience includes working with individuals in multiple areas including: anxiety, depression, loss, trauma, stress management, mindfulness, relationships.
The challenges of cancer do not stop after treatment. The National Cancer Institute defines cancer survivorship as “focusing on the health and well-being of a person with cancer from the time of diagnosis until the end of life. This includes the physical, mental, emotional, social, and financial effects of cancer that begin at diagnosis and continue through treatment and beyond.” This resonates with me because it acknowledges the whole cancer journey and the unique concerns and needs of each individual as they change over time. Loved ones and caregivers are also impacted by cancer and are also a part of the survivorship experience.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
