My ideal client presents depressive symptoms related to trauma & grief. They express that they want to process unresolved childhood issues. They express that the issues have prevented close relationships with their adult children. They want forgiveness and help in creating better ties. The goal may be to explore & resolve issues related to traumatic events and improve overall mood. Interventions may include sharing details of the event and how it has affected their relationships, using positive self-talk, developing positive coping skills, and identifying effective strategies to communicate thoughts and feelings.

Sometimes the dream of raising children is not what you expected. No matter what you do, it seems nothing works. You worry if your child will be okay and if things will ever get better. You are not alone. It is heartbreaking to see your child struggle socially, academically, emotionally, and behaviorally. Many factors impact behavior. Trauma, sensory overload, and grief, are just a few examples. When children don't know how to communicate their experiences, feelings, and needs, they often communicate through behaviors such as tantrums, acting aggressively, or shutting down.

It is used for anxiety, depression, phobias, panic attacks, sleep disturbances, PTSD, grief, performance anxiety, poor self image, sexual abuse, and everyday struggles.
Not everyone likes to talk about their thoughts, feelings and past traumas. Luckily, there’s a type of therapy that uses calming eye movements to bring healing and reduces uncomfortable feelings in a natural and out-of-the-box manner. Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) can help reduce negative images, sensations, and symptoms. It is an evidence-based therapy that has been proven with research at the University of South Florida and is used extensively with veterans. ART therapy is designed to bring about big changes in a short period of time (https://acceleratedresolutiontherapy.com/). Traditional talk therapy is also available.

My passion is helping others with life transitions, changing roles, anxiety, and grief.
Are you finding yourself feeling overwhelmed with events in your life? Perhaps you are facing a frightening change in the health of yourself or a loved one. Or you have experienced the loss of or a change in a relationship with someone very important to you, or a change in a personal or professional role that has largely self-defined you. Life transitions, while inevitable, can be so difficult and can cause immense grief and feelings of despair. Are you feeling hopeless than you will ever feel like “yourself” again? Your usual coping strategies just don't seem to be working, and you don't know what to do.

I have training in grief and loss as well as infertility, parenting, and adoption.
Is there something holding you back from the experience of feeling fully alive, safe, and satisfied in your own life; in your own skin? Experiencing internal and external difficulties long enough and under enough stress, we become disconnected to what makes life worth living. I believe my job is to provide a safe space and be a supportive, caring, non-judgmental presence as a guide and collaborator. Together we can face what is hurting or not helping you. I have worked over the years in a variety of settings with adults, children, teens, families and couples from diverse backgrounds and identities.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
