I work with people going through life transitions, voluntary or involuntary, that relate to work, relationships, loss, or traumas and that are causing personal distress in a variety of ways.
We cannot get through life without difficult times. None of us can. Whether it's a family conflict, career predicament, or personal trauma we are going to experience them. And, yet, how we handle them can make all the difference in our future and the future of those we love. I have been doing psychotherapy for a long time, both with individuals and with couples, and hope I have developed an ability to help manage these life situations. I work with people in both short-term crisis situations and longer-term therapy contexts, from their teens to their nineties.

Therapy is a confidential space to explore areas where you are feeling stuck, experiencing difficulty, or contemplating change, with the goal of feeling more confident and whole as a person. I work with adult individuals who seek a deeper understanding of, and relief from, their suffering: depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, relationship problems, spiritual/existential questions, and various forms of addiction. Many times, addiction is accompanied by interactions with the legal system and therapy can be a safe space to process thoughts and feelings about legal problems or incarceration.

My specialities are integrative and aimed at addressing challenges that traverse the lifespan to include developmental trauma (in particular, physical and/or sexual abuse in early childhood), substance abuse, anger issues, aging, attachment, relationships in conflict, identity confusion, criminal justice (legal) involvement and grief & loss.

If any of these questions resonate and you are in search of guidance to actualize change in your life, therapy can offer a compassionate private space to deepen your process of self-inquiry, gain renewed perspective, heal from past pain and losses and reimagine your future through clarifying your truest feelings, needs and choices. Therapy is most optimal as an interactive collaboration between client and therapist with the relationship at the heart.

My name is Sabrina. I'm a Clinical Psychologist with emphasis in Depth Psychology. What is depth psychology? It’s the deep dark scary stuff we instinctively repress at the first sight of change-a job, relationship, a dream, a virus. Transition and change suck! But, no darkness is too dark, no fear is too crippling, because growth is part of human life. Don't despair alone.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
