Change happens! Maybe your life changed in a single event or slowly over time. It could be a loss of a person, a job, your health, or just the way things were. Sometimes the script of what you thought your world was about has flipped or no longer fits your new situation. We are in difficult times; our once reliable ways of coping and caring for ourselves may not work as well today. Even if you feel unsure of what’s possible, I can support you in finding new tools and revising your story to better fit your present needs and values. Let’s work together to discover what works best for you so you can get back to living your life.

You want to appear confident and like you have it all together, but deep down, you struggle to get it all done and stay connected to the present moment. You may be fed up with the constant battle of proving yourself, feeling anxious you are missing something, or preoccupied with pleasing others. You might not even remember a time things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to feel connected and enjoy the NOW. You’re ready to smile and laugh again. Most of all, you’re ready to take charge of your life and no longer be controlled by anxiety and grief.

You might be realizing you need support - that maybe you’re not handling things as well as you’d hoped. Maybe the What Ifs & the doubts have taken over, or you’re not feeling motivated anymore. You’re not sure how it started, but you’re tired of feeling this way. It scares you to think nothing will change. Maybe you’ve had a loss in your life, or maybe you’re just not happy with how often you use your phone/TV, weed, or alcohol to cope with things. Maybe you're not sure what to do to make changes. Maybe this is the first time you've considered counseling - if so, kudos for taking that first step.

When we tend lovingly to our grief, transitions like death, separation, divorce, and mid-life challenges can actually be invitations to live more fully.
When the unwanted or unexpected happens, it is as if the whole world has imploded. If left untended, grief can show up in ways that don't serve us. We can lose ourselves in alcohol, sleep, work--anything to numb the pain. Some of us lash out or withdraw from the people and things that give our lives meaning (e.g., family, friends, community). It doesn't have to be this way! I specialize in helping people whose lives have been affected by illness or death, separation or divorce, and mid-life issues (parenting struggles, caring for aging parents, etc.).

I help in recovering from depression, anxiety, weakened relationships and friendships, a loss of connection with others in general, or a loss of sense of self.
Deep, respectful understanding is one of the most important things to have from someone. I have found that when one receives this deep respect, great reservoirs of untapped strength are opened. Through it, I have seen people find hope, creativity, and happiness.

Anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma can impact this.
There may be places in your heart that you are afraid to go. Feelings you don’t want to acknowledge. Struggles you don’t want to face. Brokenness you don’t want to experience. You may be surprised at the strength, beauty, and courage that you find inside. And, you don’t have to do it alone. You will find that meaning and purpose — a sense of self — are created by being where you are, feeling what you feel, without judgment or evaluation. And in this surrender, in the place of your greatest need, you will find movement toward what you desire most. My belief is that a heart at rest is where change happens.

Truth. Life’s complicated and we’re too hard on ourselves. My clients are typically women going through two key transitions in their life: emerging adulthood and adjusting to parenthood. My clients are often leaving home, graduating, establishing their careers, and starting a family. They are often really good at taking care of others and not as good at taking care of themselves. I specialize in working with anxiety, self-doubt, perfectionism, and boundary challenges. As well as concerns related to the adjustment to parenthood, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, birth trauma, infertility, and pregnancy loss.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
