So many things can interfere with this including trauma, grief, broken relationships, and patterns that are self-destructive to name a few.
Healing, recovery and growth depend on experiencing ourselves, others and life challenges in a new and healthier way. Change is an action. When we do things differently, our lives change. Therapy is a process of understanding the roots of our patterns and learning to respond to life in new and healthier ways. Awareness comes first, then action comes next. It is the action that allows us to take our lives in a direction that is more connected to our true selves. It takes tremendous courage to embark on that journey, but the reward of a fulfilling life and healthy, happy relationships are worth the time and effort invested.

We will work to help you find relief from trauma, stress, grief, anxiety/depression or behavior concerns.
Are you concerned about your child/teen? Is their behavior related to mental health or are the changes you are observing a normal part of development? You may be noticing behaviors such as withdrawal, sadness, irritability, loss of interest in activities they previously enjoyed. Or they may be anxious, overwhelmed, moody, fearful or having difficulty focusing in school. It can be hard to start the conversation with your child/teen or get them to open up? As a parent it can be overwhelming to watch kids struggle and not know how to intervene or offer support. You don't have to do it alone.

I have helped my clients with issues such as: anxiety, depression, grief & loss, relationship issues, life transitions, trauma, and addiction/recovery.
Over the years, I have found that people have an innate sense of resiliency that they can tap into, but need guidance to find it. During the therapeutic process, I strive to nurture this sense as my clients grow, heal, cultivate creativity, and thrive in life’s many journeys. We all need to feel connected and heard, and we each deserve a therapist that is truly interested in us and has our best interests at heart. I truly believe this is an essential component of therapy. It takes courage to ask for help and I applaud you for taking the first step.

I have had the privilege to work with individuals with generational trauma, grief, ADHD, and relational/familial issues.
When we are exposed to trauma at an early age, it can seriously impact how we feel about ourselves and our relationships with others. Trauma can also profoundly affect whether we feel this is a safe world and can contribute to depression, anxiety, and relational/familial issues. My practice is from a strengths-based, trauma-informed perspective with a non-judgmental framework. I aim to understand clients’ internal responses and to provide more options for emotional regulation and problem-solving.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
