Therapists in 60093
I assist individuals in managing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, pregnancy and addiction issues, amongst other concerns.
I believe that therapy is an opportunity for growth and healing. I offer a safe, responsive environment that builds on the coping methods, survival strategies, and the inner wisdom that you have already implemented in your life. My practice centers anti-oppressive practices, acknowledging that our intersecting identities impact the way we view ourselves, others, and the world. I place an emphasis on assisting people in advocating for themselves, which sometimes comes in the shape of creating healthier boundaries or learning how to better communicate your needs. We all deserve to move through life being loved for who we are.

As a therapist, I use a relational, psychodynamic approach to help clients understand how they make meaning of their lives, define their purpose, connect to others, and make sense of trauma or loss.
As a therapist, it is my goal to help clients develop a deeper understanding of their experiences, beliefs, and emotions, so that they might live more full and authentic lives. Since each of us faces unique challenges and obstacles on our path towards change, I approach therapy as a collaborative, nonjudgmental process in which we will co-create a space where we can be thoughtful, open, and curious about what is shared.

I work with clients who may be experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, grief, addictive behaviors, trauma, etc.
The human experience can be challenging at times. One can encounter situations leading to feeling powerless, in pain, or stuck. At times, this can look like an individual ruminating in the past or experiencing levels of depression. Or possibly, one can also be worried about the future or experiencing anxiety levels. I value the autonomy that people have and their ability to problem solve. Yet, I also acknowledge that a constructive and intentional space could provide efficiency for individuals maneuvering through various situations. As a counselor, I intend to help you within this space and support you on your healing journey.

Other areas of interest and experience include grief and loss, gender and sexuality exploration, and skill acquisition for emotional regulation, including support with suicidal ideation and self harm.
I believe that long- lasting, meaningful growth thrives in self-compassion, honoring shame, and creating purpose. Inherited and experienced trauma can remain in the body and inform our choices, so one of my goals is to offer a guiding hand in disentangling negative core beliefs from the body and sense of self. My therapeutic practice is filtered through a strengths-based and feminist lens, and as a queer therapist, I aim to foster an LGBTQIA+ affirming space, challenge racist systems, encourage body empowerment at every size, and promote sex-positivity.

I treat clients aged 18 (high school graduated) and up. I work best with clients who are ready to invest in meaningful change through a collaborative and thoughtful process. We all face challenges, and need support along the way. My process involves identification of intentions and values that support small gains in the moment that result in the achievement of larger goals over time. I start with a detailed assessment. Together we will create a treatment plan that is designed to help the client observe and experience the changes both large and small.

My specialties include trauma/stress response, grief, relationship issues, and life transitions.
We all have a natural resilience to heal from trauma, loss, and unexpected setbacks, however stories created about who we are can get in the way. They tell us we are not good enough, that we will fail, that we are not safe. They disconnect us from others, the world around us, and the goals we seek, they wreak havoc in our bodies. Together, we will partner to make sense of and transform these stories, allowing for growth and connection. I believe that even our adversities can be a source of strength and an opportunity to better ourselves.

I believe that therapy is about the process of exploring the questions of being human - what makes us connected or disconnected to ourselves and others, and how we can live in a way that is authentic and meaningful. I hope to provide a supportive and challenging space for clients who are seeking to understand the issues that are holding them back from living their fullest lives. I am direct and active in session, while allowing people the space to develop their own insights.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
