My areas of specialty include LGBTQIA+ issues, trauma, and relationships. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, poly families, and ENM relationships. I also provide clinical supervision to LCMHCA's. With over 10 years of experience, I've come to enjoy helping clients find their voice, recognize their needs, and discover the benefits of self-care and boundaries. My work is heavily focused in Attachment Theory, but I also include aspects of Queer Theory, EMDR, CBT, and others as appropriate.

LGBTQ+, HAES, Anti-Racisit.
Are you tired of feeling the crushing grip of anxiety? Do you notice having the same emotions and conflicts show up in your life and relationship? Do you perhaps have an idea of what is happening but are unsure of how to make it change? Maybe you are struggling to actually go after what you desire, speak up with confidence, stop a behavior you really want to stop, but just can’t! Going around in circles without a clear exit to new horizons is exhausting. You are smart, willing, and wanting to change your circumstances, and now you need to know how to get aligned with yourself to make it happen!

I am passionate about working with adults from all backgrounds, including creative minds, curious spirits, highly sensitive folks, and lifelong learners. I am LGBTQ+-affirming and committed to anti-racist work. I work with individuals wanting to address issues within their relationships, explore their past selves to better understand who they are and want to be, manage anxiety better in their day-to-day lives, and feel supported during major life transitions. Issues I find myself typically working with are related to attachment, anxiety, emotion regulation, interpersonal strategies, life transitions, stress, and self-esteem.

I am a counselor who understands how it feels to sit in front of a therapist, that is why compassion is important to me. Vulnerability can be difficult, but we can create a safe space so when you're ready, we can change the difficulties interfering with your wants. That is therapy, getting what you need to get what you want. For example, depression has different flavors, but it keeps us from engaging fully in life and/or losing focus on what our dreams are. Whatever you are seeking to make life better and better, I am here to help. In person sessions can be scheduled on a limited basis but Telehealth with be offered on going.

Everyone could benefit from talking with a counselor to help cope with life's stressors. You may prefer to meet with a counselor one-on-one to help improve your quality of life. If your intimate relationship is a concern, you and your partner(s) could utilize relationship counseling to communicate more effectively and regain the passion that drew you together. Building a support network and feeling as if you belong are also valuable resources that group counseling can provide. Regardless of your concern, there are multiple counseling options to help meet your needs. Initiating counseling services is the first step to feeling better.

LGBTQIA+ affirming and identified.
Sometimes life creates change when we aren't ready. You may find that life transitions have left you feeling differently than you expected, or you're discovering things about yourself that you aren't sure what to do with. Sometimes loved ones change in ways that challenge us, and sometimes we grow and hope our loved ones will grow with us. Sometimes LGBTQIA+ identities have specific needs, particularly for couples and families adjusting to newly expressed identities and searching for a healthy, supportive dynamic. Unfortunately, coping with these unexpected changes usually isn't a smooth, easy, or pretty process.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
