I would love to talk with you about how we can work together! I will support you during sessions so that you better understand how you experience life, resulting in feeling more comfortable as you approach challenges. I work with adults, teens, and children. I have spent my career learning how to find the best approach that feels right for each person. For adults this often includes getting to know yourself better with increased compassion. For children, I support learning new ways to reduce childhood stressors and acting out behaviors, often through play. This results in positive feelings between parents and their children.

As one ages, one experiences the "Winds of Change". Some of us experience these changes in our lives one at a time, and others experience a world wind that may take our breath away. As a therapist that concentrates on Holistic remedies, I find that many of us are not able to handle all of the changes that may occur at one time, which may leave us feeling depressed and/or anxious. However, during this state of "change" is it actually depression and/or anxiety... or is it a result of what has or is occurring in our lives?

I predominantly work with women of all ages who have been through traumatic events, are going through life transitions and recreating themselves, grieving after loss or divorce, needing help resolving inner or relationship conflicts, wanting support in caretaking roles etc. If your goals are to find peace, strength, balance, and healing, I could be a good fit on that journey. Together we’ll work to decrease loneliness, reduce suffering, develop healthy boundaries, and become a strong and empowered person. My greatest joy is when a client “graduates” and feels confident to live as their most powerful healthy self!

Understanding trauma & anxiety comes from more than just the words we speak. If simply talking it out is not working, I will listen and help. I welcome the use of mindfulness, mind-body exercises, and creative approaches to work on, not just talking, but embodying the change you want to see.

There is something wonderful about growing older, especially in this profession. For 36 years I have practiced psychotherapy, which is defined as the “care of the soul.” This type of work is not for the faint of heart. Healing is an intensely intimate, individual, and spiritual experience. We know our answers, the question is, "Are we brave enough to hear them?"

Navigating life’s challenges can be tough, particularly when you are in “push through it” mode and neglecting the parts of your life that help you to thrive. This is when you are most vulnerable to anxiety and depression and most likely to fall out of attunement with your best self. Relationships begin to suffer and sometimes it's hard to plow through the weight of past judgments, prejudices, feelings of shame, and guilt. Those types of past experiences can feel like unwelcome guests and their impact can be profound, but if we can learn to turn toward them with openness and understanding, change can be found around the corner.

As a health psychologist, I have a great deal of experience working with people suffering from one or more chronic illnesses. I may be a good fit if you are coming to terms with a health scare, processing a new diagnosis or treatment, have experienced medical trauma, or are struggling to cope with chronic medical conditions. Prior to hospital work, I spent many years working and training in college counseling centers. Please be willing to self reflect, have an open mind, and be willing to consider how you treat yourself.

From the outside, it looks like you have it all together: a stable job, a social life, maybe even a relationship. But when you're alone, self-doubt, anxiety, and dissatisfaction creep in. You catch yourself fixating on imperfections or past mistakes, questioning your choices, comparing yourself against others', and wondering if you'll ever feel content. It's possible that amidst the hustle, you've lost sight of who you are, where you're headed, and why you’re working so hard. Maybe it feels difficult to slow down, be in the moment, and enjoy your successes. You want to change but you're stuck and the way forward feels unclear.

Our sessions use a tailored blend of EMDR, Brainspotting, IFS, somatic, and psychedelic therapy (when appropriate).
Are you struggling with self-confidence? Do you second-guess and shrink yourself in relationships? Find yourself upset "for no reason" often? You’re a hard worker, you use your logic, but still question your worth, feeling disconnected and powerless. Maybe you’re struggling with grief and loss, or coping with the chaos of a past or recent trauma. It’s all overwhelming, and you’re ready for things to get better. You’re ready to find the clarity you know is there. I want to help you get there.

I’m Internal Family Systems-informed and incorporate somatic + mindfulness-based approaches into sessions.
Healing happens when we feel safe enough to show up exactly as we are. All parts of you are welcome here. I’m not here to change you or fix you. I don’t think you are “broken” or that there's anything "wrong" with you. Together we'll create an accepting + compassionate environment, with respect for your intuition + body's wisdom underlying all that we do. I’m trauma + social justice-informed and view therapy through an intersectional lens (mind, body, environment, culture). During our time together, we’ll likely look at environmental factors (interpersonal, economic, oppression) that create individual/collective stress and trauma.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
