Effective therapy can be life-changing and life-saving. In my time as a mental health counselor, I have been fortunate enough to see therapy bring peace, hope, and stability to clients of varying ages, ethnicities, races, sexual orientations, and genders. I thoroughly enjoy working with individuals who desire a better future for themselves and their families. I am specialized in CBT working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, and issues related to family and/or sexual orientation.

You were created for a purpose. There are times when this statement seems more false than true because life is hard and has so many challenges. Sometimes it’s even difficult to talk to family or friends about what you are experiencing out of fear of fear or rejection, judgment, or being misunderstood. I create a safe, nonjudgmental, and caring space for my clients to discuss those difficult experiences and challenges. I support my clients in working through their traumatic and difficult past, enveloping the strength and resilience to work through current challenges, and creating a promising, purpose-driven future.

Imagine you are on a sinking ship, gazing at the shore past the deep blue sea. Notice what thoughts and feelings are coming up for you in that moment? Are they heavy? You then scramble to find something to help you reach safety, when you find a single piece of wood. You begin to paddle for what feels like forever until you finally make it to shore..whew! Now much like the thoughts and feelings invoked by the sinking ship experience run parallel to the challenges faced in our lives. These challenges can feel heavy, overwhelming and endless; we just want to experience relief, but sometimes we don't have the paddle, or the tools yet..

Do you battle anxiety and stress in the form of racing thoughts that don't seem to go away? Or full blown panic attacks that seem to knock the breathe out of you and keep you immobilized? I've been there. I truly believe every experience in life can help mold you and shift you for the better. Through every hardship you encounter, you can pull through and gain more on the other end. Life begins to change the most when you stop asking “Why does this keep happening to me?” and start asking yourself “What am I meant to learn from this?” and “How can I grow from this?” I believe I can help you overcome anxiety and moving forward.

When imagining my ideal client, I don't think about issues or a niche, I think about our connection. Connection is truly the foundation of a therapeutic relationship that results in the best outcomes for the client. Making a connection with a clinician who can hear you and the issues you would like to work on is an important step in making whatever changes you would like to see take place in your life. Taking the first step to investigate this connection, through a free 15 minute phone call would be the best way for us to evaluate this together!

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
