As a licensed marriage and family therapist, I work with both couples and individuals addressing an array of presenting issues including general mental health concerns, family of origin wounds, attachment, communication and substance abuse.
Hey there! I'm glad you're taking the time and effort to pour back into yourself. When life gets overwhelming, we sometimes turn to self neglect instead of self love and empowerment. I'm here to help! My approach as a therapist, stems from strengths-based and family systems models which means I strive to honor a client's full self, identifying strengths and learning new skills during the healing process. I believe that you have the power to make the changes you wish to see in your life. Together we can unpack and explore your full self and discuss strategies for stoking the fire of hope and change.

The path of progress comes from collaboration in an atmosphere of cooperation, education, and insight. Whether our stress is around our internal needs, people close to us, or with the state of the world, the counseling relationship is about accessing and utilizing your innate ability to learn and grow from where you are into the better life you seek. Covid-19 has disrupted nearly all our connections with friends, family, work, and community. This has brought out the unfulfilled need for connection in relationships already stressful, and has inspired people to find creative ways of strengthening connection.

I work with issues such as trauma, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, recovery, family, couples, divorce, pre-marital counseling, and existential issues.
We all struggle in life but sometimes no matter how hard we try, we don’t seem to be able to get out of it on our own. Are you looking for someone who will center on what your needs are? Do you want to find out about how therapy can improve your quality of life? Then give me a call. I have over twenty years of experience, and I specialize in people reduce the distress and be happier. I have been a therapist abroad as well as in the US so I know how adaptation to change can be challenging.

Life is tough - bringing yourself to admit that either you, your child or family needs counseling can be a tough decision.
Your family is struggling. You and your spouse/child aren't talking. Would you like you and your child to get along better, learn how to grow? Seeing your child in pain or struggle can be one of the hardest battles ever fought. As a family, learn how to strengthen your bond with your child and as a parent in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

I employ this "relational science" to help you work through the conflict and stress of your personal, career, and family life.
We are born-in, hurt-in, and healed-in relationships. I can help you unpack the challenges that keep you from living your best life. We constantly seek connection and a sense of belonging in our personal, family and work lives. Living in a state of despair, disappointment, and pain is not normal. If you desire change, let's start that journey today. I know how to help move you from where you are, to where you want to be. Growth and change can be anxiety provoking, initially. But, so rewarding when properly nurtured. My passion is helping people take courage in learning how to fully experience the hope that is within them.

The clients I focus on have difficulty with many stressors in life. School, divorce, relationship and family issues. Each of these are influenced by many factors that can quickly overwhelm someone. Although each person is different, everyone shares a common trait. They have an innate ability to handle the situation but are just needing the correct tools. All of us need someone in our corner at different points in our lives. None of us are alone.

I have worked in university counseling centers, family counseling centers, and community agencies.
We may experience situations that leave us doubting ourselves, feeling overwhelmed, or mentally and physically defeated. Along the way, we begin to question ourselves and wonder where we are going. We feel stuck. My focus in counseling is to help you quickly clarify your concerns, identify strengths and abilities that are being underused, and develop tools and resources to maintain your optimal satisfaction. When our work is over, I hope you feel empowered and excited about the changes yet to come in your life.

As a marriage/ family therapist associate, I am able to sit with you, or even you AND your spouse, & help you gain insight into how every relationship in your life has impacted how you view & navigate your world today.
Striving to be excellent at all the things has become a lot to carry on your own and with all the "great things" going on in your life, it has become really difficult to admit how overwhelming it can be in your head. Work is stressful, your family and friends don't really understand and well, you're having some imposter syndrome and your spouse or lack there of is another conversation. It's so much. Almost too much. You just want to make sense of it and turn down some of the noise in your head. Maybe find a way to not feel so heavy all the time.

Whether you are family or other supports, I choose to take that time to assess needs for all.
Relationships are one of the most important aspects to me when working with others and through life. I believe we find ourselves in various relationships throughout our days, weeks and lives. I taught elementary school for four years and had the chance to work with children and their families in a different aspect. My philosophy gradually changed to wanting to help families and children with their relationships and began my career with mental health. My current philosophy appears to involve getting to know one another on the client’s time.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
