I profoundly understand interracial marriage, military family, multicultural family, and minority groups dynamics.
As a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist(CIRT), and a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP), I have experience in helping individual, marital, premarital and family discord, cultural issues with interracial couples, children, parenting, interpersonal issues, depression, anxiety disorders, self-esteem issues and others. The pain that humans experience is diverse, deep, and wide. But there is also healing power within everyone to overcome pain. I believe that there is healing power within every person and that each person has good qualities that are unique to them.

I am currently not accepting new clients. I am a licensed professional counselor and registered play therapist working in my own practice with children, teens, and adults. While the work we do is serious, I provide a comfortable environment filled with light, humor, and genuine positive regard. I offer a lively and interactive experience regardless of your needs. I am trained in several models, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), play therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS); however, I believe a solid therapeutic relationship is the foundation for growth and change.

I am also a military spouse who understands a range of feelings and experiences that all family members go through.
Do you remember a time when you were calm and at peace? Has it been difficult to see the light ahead of you and find ways to get back on track in your life? What if you can get on that path you envisioned and able to return to your previous level of functioning? I believe we all have stories to tell and your story matters. I understand that it can be quiet challenging and scary to know at which point you felt lost in control of your life. It can be even scarier to know whom to rely on or whom to open up to during this most critical time.

We have been in survival mode, working hard to meet the demands of family, work, and society that we have neglected to take care the most important persons, ourselves.
Hello beautiful people! My name is Unique Jordan. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and the owner of A Unique Perspective. I have been providing therapy services for more than ten years working with individuals, groups, and families. A Unique Perspective was developed to create a sacred space for us as African Americans. Statistics show that African American therapists make up 5 % of the psychology workforce. Statistics also show that we are less likely to seek out therapy support.

Issues I commonly encounter for children/adolescents include: relational challenges with parents, siblings, peers, issues involving school, and navigating transitional phases between developmental stages and educational progression; for young adults/adults: relational challenges with family, friends, coworkers, and the search for personal meaning.
I believe that everyone can benefit from psychotherapy. Utilizing this process can help you to identify, develop, and implement behavioral, emotional, and cognitive change that can allow you to feel more centered and self-confident, and can provide an increased sense of empowerment to address future challenges. I view seeking help through psychotherapy as a sign of strength rather than of weakness. Taking this step often makes one feel anxious, but my experience is that once taken, people usually feel a sense of relief, combined with an increase in hopefulness. In a way, seeking help is the first step on the path to healing.

Our early family of origin experiences lay the foundation for internal and relational patterns that continue to play out in later life. Many of our patterns include our best and most creative efforts to adapt to the tough stuff of life such as trauma, misattunement, and loss. Though these patterns are not set in stone, they are often automatic and hard to recognize, change, or understand. Together we can explore the ways in which our adaptations may have served you well in earlier times but are no longer proving to be helpful, effective, or authentic. I work with clients to create connection, healing, safety, and satisfaction.

Services are offered by a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, skilled in relationships, connection, attachment, and trauma - offering a truly holistic/whole-person approach.
Has our current health climate inspired you to make a change? Spiritual direction is the process of exploring a deeper relationship with the spiritual aspect of being human, and any aspect of your unique, personal, and sacred spirituality. For some, this includes exploring your relationship with the divine, deepening your spiritual identity, or building spiritual practices. For others, it includes exploring spiritual beliefs or values and the degree to which these fit with your personhood. It can involve asking questions, sharing joy, fears, or struggles, getting ‘unstuck’, or creating change in an informed and intentional way.

I have been fortunate to work with individuals with eating and food issues, divorce, sex and relationships, and family problems.
I work with adolescents and adults experiencing disordered eating and people seeking to make peace with food and their body. My work also includes people in relationships and individuals experiencing sexual problems, separation and divorce, infidelity, and co-parenting. I use a nonjudgemental, collaborative, person-centered approach to address the individual's needs. I work with individuals to help them recognize their own strengths and incorporate positive coping strategies as they move forward. I believe that creating trust and a little bit of humor go a long way in working through the struggles we face in life.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
