As a former school counselor, private practice therapist and parent, I have had a great deal of experience supporting children, teens, young adults and families with anxiety, OCD, challenging behaviors, family struggles and more.
If you are a parent who is feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, hopeless or exhausted over your kiddo or young adult’s challenges, or are someone who is dealing with your own anxiety, sadness or relationship struggles, I get it. It’s so common to feel isolated and alone with our overactive thoughts and feelings or our concerns about whether we are raising our precious offspring in a way that will give them grit and resilience to face life's obstacles. Sometimes we just need someone in our corner. I would love to be on your team and support you with strategies to create the life you want for yourself and your family. I'm glad you're here

My goal in our work together is to support you or your family in working through the issues that bring you to therapy so that you can feel a sense of improvement in your quality of life.
Depression, anxiety, past traumas or life changes can present roadblocks that negatively impact your life. Does that sound familiar to what you are experiencing? It can feel hopeless and overwhelming when faced with these roadblocks, but I can help you. I work with individuals and families to assess what issues are impacting your life, then we collaboratively develop a plan to navigate a path of healing.

Life is full of surprises and not all should handle alone. It's human to feel overwhelmed with work demands, adapting to a new country, navigating peripartum, managing family life, or facing relationship challenges. It's challenging to experience self-doubt or pursue unachievable perfection. Feelings of anxiety, sadness, trouble sleeping, or impacts of past traumas might arise, making life much more difficult. This is where therapy can make a significant difference, offering a space for self-reflection and strengthening your relationship with yourself and others.

Her clients include those experiencing depression, anxiety, self-harm, ADHD, PTSD, family conflict, stress/burnout, adjustment disorder and others.
Middle school and high school are exciting times of our lives, marked by identity exploration, experimentation, and formation. And yet, they can also be some of the most stressful and overwhelming times of life — full of uncertainty, new expectations, and never ending pressure. There comes a point where it just feels like too much. That’s when grades begin to slip, extracurricular activities start to drain us, and our relationships with friends and family suffer, leaving us feeling isolated, lonely and misunderstood.

Are you hurting or lonely and want to make some changes so you can feel better? Do you feel stuck in a life that doesn't seem to be going anywhere? Do you constantly worry about money, your weight, your sleep, your relationships, but things don't seem to change? Maybe others don't really know what's really going on inside of you. They all seem to have their act together, yet you don't. Are you tired of pretending that everything's fine, when inside you feel a deep sense that something is missing? Do you put yourself down, often blaming yourself for your troubles, yet being tough on yourself is not helping? Tired of being tired?

Hi, I'm Helen - a Filipina Asian American therapist. First, I want to acknowledge your decision to start therapy. This decision might come from the realization that "something isn't right". You might be scared, lost, and dealing with a lot of anxiety, sadness, and grief. You may even be struggling secretly. But, you don't have to struggle through this alone. l believe therapy is a brave space to reclaim your identity and begin learning the skills necessary to create a meaningful life. We can work together to help unlearn patterns that don't serve you, to make space for healthy communication and peace.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
