My style is empathic, interactive and collaborative and I incorporate various therapeutic models based on client’s needs such as cognitive behavior therapy, solution focused and family system.
Everyone experiences moments of challenge and struggle at some point in their lifetime. The first step could be hard in asking for help, but take comfort in knowing a caring and supportive therapist will hold your hand through it. I provide my patients with a safe and non-judgmental space to express their thoughts and feelings. I believe that every individual has the potential to heal from past trauma and current situations to improve their quality of life and emotional wellbeing.

At times when we feel overwhelmed, it seems easiest to escape or run away. The challenge with this is that even with a fresh start, the emotions still linger. I would like to sit with you and process these uncomfortable feelings and find ways to cope with seemingly impossible circumstances. I enjoy working with clients of all ages and backgrounds. I work from a person-centered approach, believing my clients have the skills and strength within to grow and thrive.

We all have moments of difficulty in our lives. Sometimes these difficulties are due to unexpected life circumstances or life transitions and some difficulties are caused by underlining mental health challenges or disorders. Engaging in therapy is one tool that a person can use to assist with working through and managing these difficulties.

I recognize and maximize the individual’s strengths, also help them to use their environmental support in their healing process. I believe there is no “one size fits all” type of therapy, I fit my style of therapy according to the need of my patients by using integrative approaches when it is suitable for my clients. I passionately follow cutting edge research in the field of neuroscience and take a lot of advantage of their finding in my practice. I have a broad range of experience in working with adolescents, adults and geriatric with the a very diverse background.

My initial approach is to create an open and comfortable atmosphere by using open ended questions, engaging, having the client share about what’s important in their lives, their culture, background, hobbies. From there, explore reasons for coming into therapy - longstanding struggles, more recent/situation, history of trauma, are we in a crisis and are there safety concerns. This helps gauge the treatment interventions. As a feedback-informed, goal-oriented therapist, I would use the cognitive behavioral skill of exploring thoughts and feelings and how those may shape unhealthy/unwanted beliefs about themselves or others.

I also help couples and welcome opening the process to family members when indicated.

My foremost priority is to provide a caring, respectful response to my clients' emotional and psychological needs so that honest personal exploration can take place. I will be there to provide encouragement, sincere feedback, and support you in change. Once the source of your pain is clearly seen, discussed openly, and solutions are generated, joy and personal growth have the opportunity to return.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
