Family therapy offers a different approach than traditional individual treatment.
Therapy offers a unique relationship in which an individual or family is able to gain support and insight to create positive and healthy changes. I feel humbled by the privilege to work with those who are motivated to seek opportunities to heal and grow. While I have a specialization in the treatment of children/adolescents and families, I enjoy working with a diverse population of clients. My utilization of a person-centered approach allows for each therapeutic relationship to be tailored to an individual, addressing issues and stressors as defined while developing a trusting and empathic partnership.

I am a strong believer in implementing an individual’s strengths and values to support their therapy journey along the way. I have utilized numerous interventions and techniques to better understand how to personalize treatment to each individual and watch them achieve self-worth, growth, and acceptance through their therapy journey. I have been working with those who need further support with individual needs, family dynamic issues, community supports, psychoeducation on various topics, working with high risk populations, and being an understanding, compassionate therapist.

I have the training to address these issues in family sessions, individual sessions with kids and adults.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. I have worked in the mental health field for over six years with individuals of different needs, including symptoms of depression, anxiety, anger, self-harming, etc. I also have experience working with individuals who have dealt with trauma in their childhood and issues within relationships. You've spent a lot of time trying to manage these symptoms. At times, you can tell yourself, "Yes, I got this." Other times, the difficulties in life exacerbate these symptoms, which can stop you from moving forward.

I can help your family work towards positive changes.
Is your child having difficulty following directions or socializing with their peers? Does he/she act on impulse and/or disregard safety concerns? Imagine your overactive or defiant child able to use skills to help calm themselves. Or your depressed child suddenly reaching out to a new friend. Growing up can be tough, and if your child also has a mental health need, that makes it even more challenging. Children from pre school to high school are faced with new demands constantly. They may need some extra assistance to help figure out how to manage these changes. Through participation in play therapy, your child can learn skills.

Our therapeutic work together will focus on guiding you towards a happier and more peaceful existence. We will do this by gaining insight about your situation, teaching you how to think in a more empowered way, and enabling you to safely process your thoughts and emotions. I believe we can use our life experiences (and mistakes) as opportunities to learn and grow. I will help you to assess what has not been working, in order to come to better ways of living, communicating and connecting with yourself and others.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
