Hi! So happy you’re here. Deciding to start therapy is not always an easy thing to do so I am super happy that you have taken the first step. Let’s be real. Life is hard. Life is even harder when we don’t have someone we trust in our corner. Whether it be to process our past, vent about the present, or plan our future, sometimes we just need someone to talk to. Someone who listens, someone who doesn’t interrupt to talk about themselves, or maybe someone who isn’t family. As a first-generation Latinx therapist, I understand these struggles and how difficult it may be to find someone who "just gets it."

Healing happens within relationships, relationships we have to ourselves, our beloved others, our careers, family, and even the relationship we have with the words that describe our suffering.
The clients who seek me most are those searching for meaning in the adverse events that have happened to them and their courage to live wholly and fully while suffering. I believe people who are ready for this style of rich internal therapy work are willing to leave the comfort of their suffering to live a more authentic life with grace and flexibility through radical self-acceptance.

My wife's family is from Bangladesh/India and is Muslim.
I serve couples/throuples who are in one of two kinds of situations. 1) At least one person is so hurt or hopeless they aren't sure whether they want to stay in the relationship. 2) Everyone wants to keep this relationship; they want it to be the best version of the relationship. And they're having trouble getting there...If you are not communicating with each other well, if you are trying to chart a course but are unclear how to do so, we resolve these & more for a better today and tomorrow. Many of my clients are also dealing with schizophrenia, traumas, or bipolar disorder...I also do evaluations for couples adopting from India.

Kim is an integrated, relationship-based LGBTQIA+ affirming and neurodiversity Affirming Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in treatment of anxiety and OCD-spectrum with kids, teens and adults and parenting kids with anxious emotions (SPACE and SPACE-FTL) as well as parents navigating systems around supporting a neurodiverse child.
One's experience with fear, stress, sadness or uncomfortable feelings in general can have major impacts on how we view ourselves and the world. However, when provided with therapeutic guidance, collaboration, skills training, education and support, I have learned that one can cultivate courage, growth and resilience that allows them to reengage in life in meaningful ways. The process of therapy is a collaborative one and I believe that the relationship we develop through our work together should aid in instilling hope and increasing motivation to tackle whatever challenges you face.

Have you been the therapist of your family or friend group for as long as you can remember? Perhaps you were called an “old soul” when you were younger, a reflection of your deep empathy and insight, yet this strength has also left you feeling isolated and invisible when it comes to your own needs. Throughout your life, you have found yourself striving for perfection, feeling the weight of expectation, and grappling with anxiety that can feel overwhelming. The independent and reliable mini adult at age 10 has become an exhausted and lonely woman in her late 20’s or early 30’s who usually suffers in silence.

You deserve more but can’t seem to ask for it, you feel you are always giving but does not receive enough in return. You feel exhausted managing career, family and relationships perfectly, leaving very little room to care for yourself. You know you should speak up, you know you deserve to be promoted, cared more and paid more, but can’t find ways to express those needs! Others might even look up to you for all of what you do and are, but you feel like a fraud sometimes for how scared and stressed you feel. How can you feel happy when you don’t believe in yourself? You just want to be good enough and loved. You are the one I support.

My interest is working with people suffering with developmental trauma, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, coping with daily life stress and parenting and family issues.
"The pain is there; when you close one door on it, it knocks to come in somewhere else..." (Dr. Irvin D. Yalom). The process of psychotherapy is uncovering the pain, either developmental, situation specific or just existential, and working through it within the bounds of a trusting, accepting and empathetic therapeutic relationship. Throughout the process, I will help you uncover and become comfortable with your authentic self, while bringing into the consciousness some of the themes and motives that have unconsciously ruled your life and became a part of who you are.

People refer to therapy as a science or practice-but I have come to view it as an art in the most exquisite form. Therapy is about expressing and emoting, and finding value in the internal and external relationships we create. My education and clinical experience has verified the depth of this "art," revealing knowledge that can be gained, healing of old scars, and magic that can ensue when self-love occurs. I am a firm believer that therapy is not a requirement for healthy living, but similar to music and film, it can add intrigue, deepen relationships, and significantly enhance the quality of life.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
