I have extensive training in EMDR (certified), DBT, and Internal Family Systems.
Navigating daily life when impacted by the effects of trauma can be difficult. What may feel like a minor situation or annoyance to others may trigger extreme reactions that are difficult to understand. Trauma reactions may arise at unexpected times, create unintended negative consequences, and leave you feeling confused, embarrassed, angry, and depressed. Working through the impacts of trauma can be overwhelming and intimidating. Finding a clinical psychologist with specialization in working with trauma is critical. For over 15 years, I have worked specifically with trauma related disorders.

EMDR and substance use disorders treatment are my specialities.
I am now accepting clients in California as well as Indiana! I work in a Virtual ONLY practice and I specialize in EMDR for those with substance use disorders, trauma, or a combination of the two. If you are someone who is trying to cope with substance use, trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, chronic pain/illness, or leaving a high control group. I would be glad to try to help you find another, better way forward. And what that "better way" looks like is up to you. I see therapy as being a very personal and intimate experience for each person tailor my approach to suit each person I see in treatment.

I am trained in Attachment Focused- EMDR and utilize this throughout our time together.
Significant disconnection and shame are intense and unfortunately common experiences people are struggling with. Sometimes, our emotions or body sensations feel intense or overwhelming. This pain may lead us to act in ways that are against our values or desires. Perhaps we act out sexually, eat excessively, or are avoidant of relationships. Regardless, these behaviors often further our loss of control, distress, hurt, and low self-esteem.

I am also EMDR trained.
I have been in the fields of mental health and substance abuse for over 20 years. I enjoy working with all populations. In trying to navigate through substance abuse and mental health issues, there are many factors that envelope a person's ability to cope with life. I understand that asking for help can be difficult and identifying a need for change can induce some fears. I can help you identify any changes that are needed and offer encouragement and support through your journey of self preservation.

Along with being certified in EMDR I am also a diplomate in Energy Psychology and work through holistic methods that then empower the client to learn, take hom, and employ in all sorts of situations.
What? Me . .traumatized? Surely it's not as bad as. . someone else and Their experience. Trauma comes in many forms and disguises. The back part of the brain subconsciously feels we are in a battle or there's a bear in the cave. Our defenses/ways of coping and triggers arise in ways that aren't helpful or productive/controllable. Reactions/responses seem to come from out of nowhere. These can be signs/symptoms of anxiety, depression, and overwhelm. All can be addressed and shifted in counseling, particularly through EMDR. I am certified in that field and have found it to be life-changing for many.

I am a therapist that helps people tackle feelings of shame that often stem from dysfunctional family dynamics. Relationships can get hard and become difficult to manage. Figuring out your next move can be challenging, and you may be at a complete loss. You may be doubting yourself. Sometimes, people struggle because they don’t have support and feel alone. Sometimes, they never learned how to identify their own emotions and communicate them in a healthy or productive way. EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
