As humans, we all experience hurt, overwhelm, and uncertainty at times. Many of us have had traumatic upbringings that have altered our perceptions of life. Sometimes, we feel as if our past doesn't affect us but somehow we still feel defeated, hopeless, and controlled by difficult emotions, such as sadness, anger, and anxiety. I believe that unresolved trauma and other issues can hinder our progression and cause us to become trapped in areas of our lives that we are unsatisfied with. Because of this, I work diligently to help connect the dots between past and present experiences to facilitate understanding, acceptance, and growth.

Why do we cling to dysfunctional relationship patterns or engage in self-defeating behaviors, perpetuating these ways of living despite the suffering involved? The work we do addresses these concerns in the lives of adults, adolescents, and children.

My ideal client is the teen or adult that has had significant distress from emotional trauma, anxiety, mood and attentional disorders. Most clients have previously tried many types of therapies, including drug therapies, but continue to struggle. By addressing brain function with neurofeedback in addition to therapy, I have had over 90% success helping my clients to overcome or manage their emotional/mental health challenges.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." I believe that individuals are more than just their experiences. I view psychotherapy as a place in which you can explore your life experiences as well as gain greater insight into your character "what lies within." I believe that growth occurs when people believe that they can make things different in their own lives. My role as a therapist is to support and encourage you as you take steps toward making changes in your life.

Please note that all sessions are via tele-medicine. I believe that clients seeking counseling services desire tools for living a better life, and I strive to provide those tools. I do not push change on clients, but rather helps them articulate how they want their lives to be, and then collaboratively set out to put the foundation in place to create that life. I feel that clients gain the most from the counseling experience when they feel supported, encouraged, and understood by their therapist. This process works best in a warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental space, which I provide.

I can help individuals improve their quality of life. Depression, anxiety, relationship conflict, career difficulties, life transitions, parenting frustrations, caregiving for a loved one… these are some of the issues that cause us to lose our equilibrium. To move forward in the most constructive way, and reestablish equilibrium, we will work together using CBT (cognitive behavior therapy,) my principle area of expertise. We will look at behaviors that aren’t working for you and you will replace them with behaviors that improve your daily life.

Please note I only provide tele-therapy services in Maryland, DC, Virginia, Florida, Delaware & W. Virginia. It is my belief and practice that we are more than our limited thinking minds. If you have tried other traditional therapies and find them lacking, you may find my Transpersonal , Jungian, and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Behavioral approach to be of benefit. The transpersonal is defined as "experiences in which the sense of identity, or self, extends beyond the individual or personal to encompass greater meaning. This can include exploring non ordinary states of consciousness.

Infidelity? Porn addiction? Sex addiction? Trauma? All of these issues can be tough to deal with, but I can help. I have specialized training so that you're not wasting your time and money. Not just talk, talk, talk that gets you nowhere. I used evidence-based treatments so that you're feeling better soon. As a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), a Certified Partner Trauma Therapist (CPTT), and a Certified Multiple Addiction Therapist (CMAT), I'm trained in many addictions, including substances. Most therapists aren't trained in all these issues. I offer EMDR, as well. There is hope. Together, we'll figure things out.

In times like these, mental health can be a fragile thing. You might be feeling sad, stressed, anxious, detached, irritable, or just plain ground down. The one thing you don’t feel like is yourself. Under the surface of your day-to-day burdens, there may be deeper concerns calling for your attention. Perhaps your relationships are stagnant or suffering. An old betrayal or grief might keep coming up. However it looks, you deserve to live in better conditions. We can help you stretch your innate capacity to live a life with more freedom, choice, and possibility.

LGBT, Relationships/Marriage, Sex, Kink/Fetish, Career Goals, Anxiety/Depression, HIV... Sometimes it can be so easy to sweep things under the rug and deal with it later. The problem is often we have so much going on that we forget to address things that we say we will. This therapeutic practice strongly believes that every person, every situation, and the surrounding circumstances are all unique. Your situation may sound like or seem similar to someone else’s but YOU are the factor that makes yours different, and that’s what the main focus will be; how you can be empowered to explore with me and take solutions into your world.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
