At my practice, Oak & Evergreen, I see clients of all races, gender identities, sexualities, and relationship structures.
Do you find yourself wondering if you fit into the world around you? Do you often find yourself reflecting on the way you view what's important in life and feeling...weird? out of place? different? So many of my clients feel this way. It can be so difficult to figure out who you really are in a world that is constantly trying to tell you WHO to be and HOW to be that person. It can also cause challenges in acknowledging and accepting your emotions and sharing those with others. If you're looking to find the "you-est" version of you, I'm here to help.

I offer gentle, trauma-informed counseling to individuals and their partner(s).
Do you experience anxiety individually or in relationships? Do you react when you need to engage? Does your body tense when sex, money, or change are raised? These topics can be uncomfortable for many individuals and partners, especially when we are raised in a culture that shames discussing them. Maybe changes or transitions are presenting challenges and you seek ease. Maybe money is ruining friendships or creating tension with your partner. Maybe you experience sexual pain and are frustrated with how it impacts your romantic relationships.

As an AASECT certified sex therapist, I specialize in helping couples who have a solid loving relationship and are seeking support to deepen emotional and sexual intimacy.
Are you looking for a path toward more fulfillment personally and in your relationships? Engaging in a rich and meaningful life requires knowing ourselves deeply and acting on intentional choices guided by our core values, feelings, and desires. Our relationships can become more intimate as we develop both clarity about our needs and courage to be vulnerable with those we trust to meet us on this level. I love supporting women in deepening the capacity for presence, emotional intimacy, and pleasure through mindfulness, self-compassion, and self-acceptance.

You want something different, but it’s hard to motivate and place what that really is. You are sensitive, creative, queer, thoughtful, and full of so many thoughts. You likely have a habit of overextending yourself in the hopes of finding where you feel you belong. You see patterns in your relationships that you want to examine and change, and some part of you knows that you deserve a more satisfying life. Therapy is a non-judgmental space in which you can overcome familiar patterns by being witnessed and heard, and acquire tools to improve your relationship with yourself and others.

I specialize in RELATIONSHIP ISSUES, PARENTING SKILLS ANXIETY, and SELF ESTEEM DEVELOPMENT.
Throughout a lifetime, we are reminded of our own mortality by a continuous journey fraught with hurdles and complications that cause not only physical, but emotional pain as well. Often, along with that journey, we discover the desired destination is full of stressors that inhibit our strive, accomplishments, and ultimately, our very joy and sense of fulfillment.

I have been providing therapy to individuals and couples for over twenty years.
I deeply value my relationships with clients and believe that significant healing occurs in the context of a safe, supportive environment. I empower clients to look honestly at difficult issues and make the changes necessary to enhance their lives. I believe therapy is a collaborative effort where I help client's access inner strengths and resources. We work together to get past barriers that are keeping you stuck in unproductive behavior patterns and unsatisfying relationships. The process of therapy often leads to greater self-awareness and self-acceptance, new ways of coping with life's challenges, and more fulfilling relationships.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
