For 7 years, I've helped clients figure out their relationships. If you're like them, you're an adult who's been to therapy before, gained lots of insight about yourself, & are looking to go to the next level of satisfaction in your relationships. Maybe you want to figure out whether it's time to work on or leave a relationship. Despite the insight you have, maybe you want to do a deeper dive into inner child work because you still find yourself being attracted to the wrong people. If you want to find more satisfying relationships, romantic and otherwise, the compassionate nervous system-informed approach to therapy I use may help.

I value working with clients facing all kinds of difficulties, but specialize in working with PTSD, anxiety, OCD, depression, relationship difficulties, sexuality, and gender issues.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist who has a warm and compassionate approach to therapy, which encourages active collaboration. I have a passion for walking alongside others in the midst of struggle. When you come to therapy, it’s like you are trying to climb a mountain; I am not at the top of your mountain but, rather, on another mountain, offering a different perspective, pointing out potential dangers, and helping you find the most effective path along your journey.

I believe a central component of the therapeutic process is the relationship that's established between the therapist and the client. A safe and trusting relationship provides an environment in which you are able to explore those unresolved issues and old patterns that are not letting you have the quality of life you would like to have. Therapy is an opportunity to identify what's not working for you, view it from different angles, and learn strategies that will result in alternate ways of relating to yourself and to others that may be more conducive to becoming the person you want to be.

Worried about ending up with an LGBTQ-clueless couples therapist? Don't be discouraged. I'm that rare unicorn offering couples therapy that's not just for straight couples. Know that it IS possible to get quality, sensitive, and affirming relationship help. So let's talk love, sex, conflict, and communication. You know...the essential stuff that comes after those first woozy blushes of passion have passed. Because after the honeymoon of love, who knew that you'd take off those starry-eyed sunglasses and look around to find yourself surrounded by a big old mismatched pile of emotional baggage?

I am a MFT trained to treat couples, families, and individuals.
Therapy is about exploring yourself and the way you interact with those around you to create opportunities for a greater experience in the world. This process of exploration allows you to develop an awareness of yourself, and of opportunities for growth and healing. My therapy style is eclectic, though I mostly utilize CBT, or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I believe you already have the power to be happy within you, and I will assist you in discovering that power. Therapy happens outside of the therapy room, between sessions, which means there might be homework. The catalyst for change is you!

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
