In our journeys through life we experience both pleasurable and distressing events. When these events reach a level of trauma and are not processed or effectively integrated, individuals may rely on less adaptive strategies to manage discomfort, stress and change. These strategies can negatively influence the way we perceive and interact with the world and affect our intuitive nature and our intentionality for seeking meaning and experiencing joy. My practice is informed by a deeply attuned and heartfelt approach to my client’s emotional wellbeing. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, individuals, couples and families.

I am now accepting new clients! Medicaid accepted. I use a warm, empathetic, and humanistic style to discover how stress or circumstances may be siphoning meaning out of your life and relationships. In time, clients come to realize that their mental suffering occurs when they resist reality or desire an ideal situation. Thoughts like, "Life is unfair," "Why can't I be happy?" or "Why was my childhood so bad?" become more manageable. When clients commit to the work to resolve tension and anxiety around childhood trauma, attachment, and suffering, individuation and differentiation can occur, and people feel better and freer.

Relational issues or traumatic experiences can lead us to think, feel and relate to ourselves in ways that do not value our inner knowledge, health and resources. We will work together to restore talents, strengths and abilities that have been taken over by problematic stories. By retelling these stories and experiences with preferred outcomes we can reconnect to your dreams and goals, this often helps people develop new strategies for change and increased happiness and satisfaction.

After 14 years of a cash-only private practice as a Life Coach, Holistic Health Practitioner, and Medical Intuitive, I can now sustainably work as a therapist with those who cannot afford care without insurance. Having worked with clients who live in 9 different countries, I found that almost all psychological and relationship issues are the result of acute or chronic violations of free will, free speech, informed consent, and self-governance as a unique yet interconnected individual. The impairment of willpower appears to be made worse by external motivators and addictive substances or behaviors in the long-run.

The foundation of successful psychotherapy is the establishment of a safe, confidential, trusting, and supportive therapeutic relationship.
In a nutshell, my approach to psychotherapy is best described as a collaborative exploration of how our past experiences affect how we experience life in the present. Through better understanding of our own internal and external worlds, greater integration of emotional experience can occur, more positive meaning about ourselves, others, and life in general can be made, and authentic personal growth will result. Not only can distressing symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, and the effects of trauma, be reduced, but more full, satisfying, and resilient lives can be achieved.

I have over 20 years of experience as a licensed and nationally certified psychoanalyst working with individuals, couples and professionals in the arts, privately and in groups.
Psychoanalysis and analytic psychotherapy are relationship-based treatment models. Reasons for seeking treatment, such as depression and anxiety, are as unique to individuals as are their relationships, thoughts, feelings, and perceptions. Finding out for one's self what constitutes a good therapeutic relationship develops over time along with insight and transformation. There is no replacement for personal experience where mental health is concerned. In the words of Wilfred Bion, "You are the most important person you are ever likely to meet. Therefore it is of no small importance that you get on well with this important person."

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
