My name is Ms. Cherica Allen, but you can call me “Cher.” I am a licensed professional therapist and licensed family therapist associate in the State of Texas. I have over 15 years of experience in working with adolescents, relationship issues, family conflict, depression/anxiety disorders, traumatic experiences, and substance use disorders. The best therapeutic approach is the relationship that I have with you, there are many modalities, but I believe that you have the “tools” necessary to transform your “struggles into triumphs.” My therapeutic approach is uniquely tailored to your needs.

Life can be something to brag about! And I want to help you BRAG! To provide additional comfort, know that partnering with me you will always have an individualized experience.
Hi, I’m Ashley! Firstly, I would like to commend you on taking a step. You are in the right place at the right time. Counseling can be scary and in some experiences taboo (out of the norm). It can be difficult to share thoughts, feelings, experiences, and behaviors that you are not happy with or proud of. Based on your life experiences, some things are not a matter of good or bad, but rather a way to survive. Surviving is cool. But I want to partner with you so that you can thrive. I am dedicated to creating a space of freedom. You are free to say, do, think, and be whomever or whatever. What come UP, let it come OUT.

My experience includes working with people suffering from grief and loss, abuse and trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, and individuals, couples, and families needing help with rebuilding their relationships.
Our psychological, emotional, and social well being is an important aspect of our overall health. In fact, when our mental health is out of balance it could have a negative impact on our physical health and vice versa. Common factors that affect our mental health include loss of a loved one, medical diagnosis, relational and family issues, difficulty finding life/work balance, job loss or work dissatisfaction, life transitions, and past/current traumatic events. These are part of living and being human. Counseling is one resource that could help you get through these difficult times, to process your feelings and learn coping tools.

Quoting David Mathis, "Poor listening diminishes another person, while good listening invites them to exist and matter. Positively, then, good listening requires concentration and means we're in with both ears, and that we hear the other person out till they're done speaking. Rarely will the speaker begin with what's most important, and deepest. We need to hear the whole train of thought, all the way to the caboose, before starting across the tracks." Who then should set up an appointment? Ideal clients are males, couples or families seeking life transformation, relationship growth or reconciliation or spiritual formation for life's journey.

You've taken the courageous first step of looking for support. You never thought you'd end up here... feeling overwhelmed, emotional, and exhausted. You're not sure who you are anymore, and you don't feel like you can push through, ignore, or compartmentalize these feelings any longer. Maybe it started recently after a birth, a fertility struggle, a loss, relationship change, trauma, or life transition. Maybe it started much earlier in life. Either way, this territory feels difficult for you, and you're ready to give yourself what you find so much easier to give to others... HELP.

I’m a therapist serving all of Texas. I’m a mom to a pretty bad-ass 12-year-old, a best friend to several gorgeous people, and a partner (I’m polyamorous, and have two partners currently). My friends, family, clients, and partners are the most important things on the planet to me. I have two cats, Rocco & Lilith, who are terrible, and I love them. I am a Health At Every Size provider. Four things that always make me happy: good coffee, The Office, a good eyeshadow palette, and fresh hydrangeas

My specialty is working with clients in that uncomfy place between feeling like a kid and feeling like an adult. It’s terrifying for anyone to face their future, but the one handed to Gen Z is particularly frightening. Most of my clients are struggling to find happiness in our toxic world, but there’s hope. Let’s rediscover the joy and peace you had as a kid. You can talk to me about ANYthing, but common topics are anxiety and worry for the future, loneliness, friendships, dating, independence, career, trauma, tech dependence, and self-esteem. You're the expert on your life, so I'll take your lead. Supervised by Faith Ray, LPC-S.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
