I practice an integrative approach to therapy, bringing in a variety of techniques as suited to the individual.
Do you feel like no one would stick around if they knew the real you? Does it feel impossible to let go of the past? My passion is working with teens & clients throughout their lifespan who are in the process of self-discovery and healing. If you are questioning your identity, what you are meant to bring to this world and how to move on from your past - I would love to help you find answers to those questions. I work with each individual to develop a course of therapy that suits their unique needs—there is no "one size fits all" therapy. I also care deeply about developing strong helping professionals through clinical supervision.

Diversity and cultural competence is extremely important to me, and I take remarkable care and consideration in offering acceptance and awareness in working with teen and adult clientele of all different social backgrounds, abilities, spiritual beliefs, gender identities, neuro-diversities, and sexual preferences. I practice from an integrative and eclectic position with an emphasis on the humanistic and cognitive-behavioral perspective - which means that I take a very non-judgmental and accepting approach, prioritizing treating the whole person within their own individual uniqueness.

I take an integrative approach to counseling, bringing the tools and techniques that work best for you and the changes you're trying to make.
Sometimes in life it feels like we keep getting in our own way. We keep seeing the same unwanted results but we just can't find the point where we're getting it wrong. It can be hard to tell whether it's learned behaviors from past experiences, symptoms from something like ADHD or anxiety, or even a complete mystery. Taking some time to understand the what (am I doing?), why (is that what I do?), and how (that is impacting what I want?) can lay the foundations for change in those patterns. With a bit of self-compassion and hard work, of course.

Utilizing an integrative style of therapy, my sessions encompass mindfulness-based awareness in a relational and process-based modality in order to bring a new understanding of the deeper levels of our being.
Starting an inner journey on a path to self-healing and understanding can seem like a daunting task. It can be confusing, often goes against logic, and opens us up to the very things that caused us to retreat from a full life in the first place. I understand the trepidation that comes from starting on such a journey and the various obstacles that arise during this exploration. This journey does not have to be taken alone.

My presence in session is steady and intentional. Therapy begins with openness and curiosity so that we may find a space that feels authentic and connected. My approach is humanistic, insight-oriented and integrative. Sessions may combine exploring attachment along with mind-body work, or we may process relationship concerns and their parallels to childhood family dynamics. My clients are often young adults, college students and professionals, however I also work with older teens.

I work with people of all ages (children, teens and adults) and within many different relational dynamics. I support individuals and parents of ALL diversities. The Lanterns’ Way was created to encompass the felt sense of the voyage we all take in finding our own unique light and Lanterns’ Way, inside the hardships of life; which can sometimes feel dark, lonely, and hopeless. I am passionate about working with those who are desiring to look at what has been hidden within themselves. I have been described as a therapist who “deep dives” and supports those in getting to the “root”.

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” –Maya Angelou. Sometimes life deals you a million little paper-cuts, relationships are challenging, our coping mechanisms aren’t helping, and we find ourselves disillusioned and disconnected. You may be dealing with a difficult or destructive marriage, anger and resentment, hurt from the church, relentless anxiety, unprocessed grief, feeling like you're trapped, or struggling with unspoken shadows of the past. Relational conflict feels like a never-ending cycle and you're beginning to wonder if it will ever get better.

Starting therapy can be one of the most transformational experiences if you let it be. I would be honored to walk alongside you as you get to know yourself, your patterns, and what it looks like to be the version of you that you imagine and see.

We are all human and we all have feelings. Many times, those feelings affect the thoughts we experience and thus affect our lifestyle, our relationships, our loved ones, our jobs, our opportunities, and so much more. The feelings and thoughts begin from the stressors we encounter, the unexpected situations that arise, the memories we have experienced, and then suddenly we are at a loss of how to move forward in making life decisions.

I view life as filled with opportunity for growth. Internal Family Systems therapy is a powerful way to grow your capacity to enjoy life and outgrow parts of yourself that protected you once but are no longer helpful. Parts caused by trauma, childhood events, life stressors or relationships. Are you an adult child of emotionally immature parents - with unmet needs you want to learn to meet? I teach skills to help you feel better quickly, and I also help you heal longer term patterns. We can clear painful memories from body, mind & spirit to create a healthy, integrated sense of self.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
