Want to learn how you can stop feeling so anxious or depressed, and feel more joy and less stress? Maybe you’ve had symptoms of anxiety, or panic attacks that seem to come from nowhere. Sleep problems. Losing motivation and focus. Obsessive thinking. Many people first try to get help by going to the doctor for medication. Others use alcohol or marijuana to cope. These may provide some relief, but they might not address the underlying issues. Or perhaps you are looking for help with a relationship issue. Are you experiencing an escalation of conflict, or feeling disconnected and drifting apart, or too focused on work or the kids?

I love to teach relationship and communication skills to help clients learn new ways of living and relating.
Did growing up in a wounding family cause trauma that is still affecting you? Did you experience trauma at the hands of another that left you with feelings of being unsafe, insecure and unlovable? Guilt and shame? Imagine waking up peaceful and optimistic about your Life and future. Imagine having relationships that are loving and full of grace and building a family that is one that you would have loved to grow up in. If you can see it you can be it…lets work through old trauma so that you can see and be the “you” that you have always wanted to be! Helping people work through trauma is what I love to do!

I believe the therapeutic relationship can be used to develop insight into patterns of interaction and connection to self and others. If clients are so inclined, I am happy to use spiritual tools such as astrology and divination tools to dive deep into the psyche. My hope is that I can assist and guide clients to develop internal trust and to live a joyful and autonomous life. I strongly feel that a non-judgmental and authentic stance can help support clients to feel more relaxed and present in their lives and help clients listen to their intuition to make life choices which are aligned with their values.

Therapy can help you gain insight about yourself, increase your sense of confidence, or help you explore a new life path with courage and intention. My hope is to provide support, tools, and encouragement to help you find greater balance, authenticity, and overall well-being.

I work with individuals, adolescents, and couples.
Being blindsided with change can interfere with life in ways we never knew how to expect or handle. There are many things in life that we feel prepared for. But sometimes, there are those things that hit us in the back of the head because we never saw them coming- at least not in the way that we expected. Processing this on it’s own might be manageable until we realize we have to combine that with the normal day to day life stuff that doesn’t go away. All these things that we used to be able to “handle” all of a sudden leave you feeling stuck, possibly even frightened and unsure of yourself. That’s where I come in ready to help..

Do you ever feel alone, lonely, confused, angry, and don't know why or how to cope with these emotions? Complex emotions can hijack our day-to-day lives leaving us feeling defeated. Sometimes we are not taught adaptive ways to cope at an early age making it hard to manage our stressors. Our stressors can affect our emotions and how we behave due to those feelings, which can create tension in our interpersonal relationships and how we view ourselves. I believe in having a trusting, genuine, and collaborative relationship with my clients to show them trust, acceptance, and healing can be attainable.

The complexities of life can be challenging to navigate on your own. To stay or leave the relationship, resign from work or switch majors, work through grief & loss, or how to set boundaries with friends & family, can send our thoughts spinning into a cycle of anxiety. Practicing honesty with yourself may feel daunting & in some cases impossible, as it can call for acknowledging uncomfortable situations or feelings in your life. The fear of speaking up can lead to avoidance behaviors such as substance use issues, withdrawal from friends & family, cessation of things you enjoy, mental fog & depression as well as codependency.

I also enjoy working with couples and families.
Oftentimes, how we have learned to get by in life is by doing what has worked, until it doesn't. This results in feeling overwhelmed, stressed, burnt out, frustrated. Our jobs are not exciting anymore, we fight with our loved ones, and sometimes we stop enjoying the things that have inspired us. My hope is that together we can get past unhelpful patterns, learn new skills, and gain new insight.

I provide a safe and empathic environment, with a focus on the therapeutic relationship.
I believe that everyone is capable of overcoming the obstacles that stand in the way of realizing their goals. We all deserve to be validated exactly as we are. We can accomplish this by looking inward, and fostering a strong sense of self. This way we are able meet our own emotional needs and free ourselves from the unhelpful cycles in our lives.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
