Hello, my name is Angele Suarez, and I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 22 years of experience. I believe if I can help one person become the best version of themselves, then this will directly impact the other relationships in their lives. Through empowerment and support, the adults I work with will be able to model healthy communication and respect towards others (i.e., their children, family members, friends, colleagues, etc.), thus creating a domino effect. I enjoy working with adults and couples who are struggling with relationship issues, past childhood trauma, and parenting challenges.

I work with: men of all ages in adjusting to life transitions and important relationships; men and women suffering the effects of trauma; those who are spiritually confused or are experiencing the Dark Night of the Soul.
If life is suffering, as it was said long ago, what is the meaning of both suffering and life? The real secret seems to be that through suffering we transcend suffering. Engaging in our legitimate suffering – manifesting as anxieties and depressions – brings us beyond the narrow egocentric view into a broader compassion and understanding, which is essentially a place of peace. I am not here to heal you but to help guide you to the place of self-healing. I have seen enough of both suffering and self-healing to know whereof I speak. Let's talk about what troubles you and find your unique path to resolution and acceptance.

I specialize in working with people struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, and eating disorders, and especially those who identify as LGBTQ+.
Sometimes the world just feels like too much—too much work, too much stress, too much pain, too much numbness. There can be so much in your day to day that it's hard to figure out where to start, let alone where to go. Therapy can be a wonderful space to figure out what’s not working, and give you the tools you need to make changes to attain the life that you really want, and be the person that you really want to be.

As a Certified EMDR Therapist using IFS licensed in CA & FL, I work from a trauma-informed perspective meaning I will be mindful of your past experiences potentially coloring how you feel today.
Do you feel like you are just surviving; going through the days but not fully present? Or, does it feel like your body and mind are always looking out for signs of danger? You might be feeling like every day feels the same and you're not actually going anywhere. You want your life to be different but you don't know how to make that happen. Trauma can keep you stuck; stuck in relationship patterns that make you feel discouraged. You might feel stuck settling for things when you know you are destined for more. Together we can help you go from surviving to thriving and help you feel more connected and grounded in your body.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
