I believe anxiety and stress to be the foundation of many issues we all face. My first goal is to help my patients reduce stress thereby decreasing chronic pain, depression and even the ravages of disease and illness. By developing rapport and trust and then utilizing healthy coping skills, the goal of anxiety reduction can be achieved. Its important to remember that we are engaged in a collaborative process where we learn to accept, resolve, move on and let go. I find that mindfulness, meditation and breathing is highly effective in decreasing anxiety and depression.

I specialized in utilizing HeartMath, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction); John Kabot-Zinn, Person-Centered Therapy, Problem Solving Therapy, and Strength Based Therapy.
I enjoy helping youth, college students, adults, and older adults learn to manage emotional stress, anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, Trauma, and LGBTQ+ issues. I think it is important to meet people where they are focusing on their strengths to inspire and motivate them to meet their particular needs or goals. I help my clients find inner happiness through a positive mindset.

I'm told I'm warm, smart, and that I have a good sense of humor. (Sometimes my dog likes to sit in on sessions.) I believe therapy has got to change lives -- and be enjoyable. Unlike some therapists, I believe in setting goals and tracking progress. Why go to therapy without results? What's my specialty? Helping people free themselves from what holds them back. My approach combines Positive Psychology and CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) with mindfulness and a creative mix of the best approaches known to modern psychology.

My work with my clients is collaborative and solution-focused, utilizing narrative therapy and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
It has been my privilege to help people of all ages and backgrounds live their preferred story - to feel, think, and experience life the way they want. You’ve already started seeking it out. I truly believe it is the well part of someone that seeks and shows up to therapy, that knows and wants something better. Whether you are a young person, a parent, or simply a fellow human being, you can grow, learn, change & heal. It is all possible. And I see therapy not just as a way to decrease what you aren’t wanting but also a chance to increase what you’d like to experience in yourself, your life, & your family.

Modalities include: EMDR, IFS, Trauma Recovery, psychodynamic psychotherapy, childhood developmental work, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, REBT, 12 step work, and Mindfulness based psychotherapy.
In life, pain and suffering are inevitable. We have all been wounded in one way or another. As your Psychotherapist and Integrative Trauma Recovery Trained Specialist, I treat the whole person—body, mind, and soul. Life ebbs and flows, and at times, we can find ourselves in the rapids of despair and confusion. It’s easy to fall into the trap of defining ourselves by our struggles, which only leads us to forget our true story and diminish who we really are. I will help you clear the fog of dysfunction and illuminate your path to develop and reveal the person you truly are and were meant to be.

My education, training, and experience as a therapist draw from the traditions of Western depth psychotherapy (especially the work of Carl Jung) and Buddhist mindfulness practices.
Remote sessions now available. The focus of my practice is helping people who have reached a crossroad; men and women in the second half of life who have lost their sense of meaning and purpose; young adults striking out on their own for the first time and wondering where their genius lies; couples about to be married; and couples in conflict wondering how to stay together. These new experiences are fraught with unexpected moods like anger, fear, self-doubt, and loneliness. Old ways of coping no longer work. But fear not. This is a perfect time to rediscover your innate talent, courage, and imagination.

I am a solution-oriented, trauma-focused therapist, with a strong background in mindfulness-based treatment of addiction, depression, anxiety, and other symptoms that often result from unresolved complex trauma.
I help people navigate the big choices in life, confront issues like depression and anxiety, and face down bigger problems like addiction or unresolved trauma. Maybe you sense something isn’t quite right — your job, your marriage, your personal relationships and want to get “back on track.” Together we can face difficult choices, move through the stages of change, and help you recover a sense of personal integrity. I work with couples, individuals, and sometimes families to improve communication, explore values, and address underlying issues which may be a source of conflict.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
