Additionally I incorporate the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), ECO/Nature therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
I offer expressive and emotionally based therapies to children (ages 6 and older) a warm and nurturing environment which provides a safe space to do any healing they might need to do to move forward, to feel better about who they are, or share what might have happened in their lives that makes their heart ache. I help teens and young adults navigate the turbulence of hormones, and school work, friendships and home life, college and relationships, and all the other activities and significant events happening, while trying to discover who they are and what makes them feel most alive.

"We are all just walking each other home." - Ram Dass Hello, I am Bo. I am a licensed psychotherapist, licensed clinical addiction specialist, and psychiatric social worker. Thank you for considering me as your clinician. I understand it can be difficult to reach out for help. Right now, you may be navigating feelings of shame, embarrassment, and anger. I want you to know, I have been there too, in the middle of the storm, darkness all around. Sometimes in life and in our relationships we all can become "stuck".

When things don't turn out the way we expect, or when a roadblock or setback occurs, it can challenge our internal beliefs, which can show up as emotional, thinking, or behavioral concerns.
I have worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 23 years. I enjoy working with a wide range of individual concerns, including depression, anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, abuse/trauma, addictions, and phase of life issues. I find that many of us have expectations that life will be better, that we will finally be happy, when we reach a certain milestone, or when we do what makes others happy, or if we work hard.

Additionally, I utilize narrative, cognitive behavioral therapy, and family systems theory into my work.
Life can be tough. You had expectations of what you thought life would be. What you thought it would be like to perhaps be a mother, to raise a child, and to connect with your family. You imagined it, maybe even dreamed about it. However now you find that living it is not what you expected. Or perhaps not as fulfilling as you had imagined and hoped for. You feel disconnected, and maybe even guilty or frustrated.

Behavioral Issues Therapists

What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?

No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.

What therapy types help with behavioral issues?

Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.

How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?

Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.

How effective is therapy for behavior issues?

Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
